NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: In another interesting segment on the 'Today' show, Al Roker became the victim of an outfit mishap. He was trying an ice cream sandwich that went viral but the melted dessert was dripping everywhere and stained his pants.
The incident was dismissed quite quickly by Roker’s co-hosts Sheinelle Jones, Craig Melvin, Hoda Kotb and Carson Daly who was leading the PopStart pop culture segment. The 68-year-old host did appear to go unusually quiet afterward.
McDonald’s viral dessert behind the mishap
The panel always stumbles upon the latest viral trends going around on social media and this time around, it was the “unofficial” menu addition at McDonald’s. The ice cream sandwich has been making rounds on Tiktok for its strange combination of two popular fast foods that could never be imagined to go together: hash browns and ice cream. After an influencer's video suggested this combination, many users have tried it out and have approved it for its unexpected flavors.
The panelists did not seem too excited to try out the strange ice cream treat as soon as it arrived. There was instant disapproval from Jones, Kotb and Melvin while Roker looked too shocked to comment. While Jones and Melvin didn’t enjoy the dessert, Kotb and Dale gave their approval after trying the strange recipe.
'You want salty-sweet? You go with a Payday bar'
The strange dessert was a visibly difficult dish to eat and it’s quite surprising that only Roker managed to stain his pants. The hot hashbrowns caused the McFlurry ice cream sandwiched in between to melt, causing a messy melted pool in the inconvenient plates the hosts were served the dessert. Roker's plate of melted sandwich ice cream slanted to one side and it spilled on his pants just as Melvin warned him to 'be careful'
While the fans were divided over whether the weird dessert would taste good or not, a fan also observed that “Al didn't seem all to [sic] happy about this.” The meteorologist had gone quiet after the mishap and then, in a fun outburst, called the dish “ridiculous” without even trying it. He closed the panel off by saying, “You want salty-sweet? You go with a Payday bar.”
