BUCHAREST, ROMANIA: Andrew Tate, a social media sensation, multimillionaire, and four-time world kickboxing champion, refers to himself as Morpheus from 'The Matrix' and 'The Top G'.
The popular face on the Internet was not so well known until 2022. Here is the story of how Andrew Tate rose to fame and became a highly influential person.
How did Andrew Tate become famous?
Tate's kickboxing career took off, but it's his status as an Internet sensation that has catapulted him to current levels of fame and popularity.
Tate, who was expelled from 'Big Brother' in 2016 for verbally abusing a woman, went on to become a well-known social media personality who frequently spreads controversial ideas to millions of conservative followers on social media, as per BBC.
Tate's popularity quickly grew due to a plethora of podcast appearances and viral videos on platforms like Instagram and TikTok. His notoriety allegedly contributes to the wider problem of young guys being toxic on the Internet.
Many have voiced legitimate concerns about him publishing the kind of content he does, claiming that he is negatively influencing impressionable men and boys to display all of the previously described flaws.
In 2022, Andrew Tate rose to fame after starting a viral social media campaign to top the TikTok user base. He did this to increase his online following and draw new users to 'Hustlers University', his membership website.
In addition to intentionally saying contentious and "triggering" things on podcasts, Andrew Tate taught students at Hustlers University how to edit his videos and share them on thousands of independent accounts on TikTok!
Andrew Tate banned from social media
Tate described himself to NBC in a statement as a "success coach" with a well-developed "online character". He responded to accusations of misogyny by saying he had "many videos praising women" and that they teach males "to avoid toxic people as a whole", not just women.
That goes for all "low value people", even the "toxic men." Tate continued, saying, "It has nothing to do for hate for women, it's simply about good and bad people. My mother is my hero."
But Tate's celebrity status could not shield him from the unavoidable consequences of breaking the terms of service on all the major social media sites.
In fact, the controversial figure has already been removed from Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. The process to remove him from all social media platforms is gaining daily traction.
The controversial influencer in allowed to share his views on platform X, previously known as Twitter. He has 8.2 million followers on the platform where he posts frequently.
