Caroline Flack’s mum gives poignant message to Phillip Schofield in Newsnight interview
The mother of the late ITV presenter Caroline Flack has given her thoughts on the ongoing scandal surrounding the former This Morning host Phillip Schofield, after the broadcaster said he understood “how [she] felt” amid “relentless” media criticism of his affair with a younger male colleague. Schofield quit the popular ITV daytime show in May, before releasing a statement in which he confirmed he had a “consensual on-off relationship” which was “unwise, but not illegal”. In his first broadcast interview since issuing these comments, carried out by the BBC’s media editor Amol Rajan, the broadcaster said he has “lost everything”. “My girls saved my life… Last week, they haven’t left me for a moment. They’ve been by my side every moment, because they’re scared to let me out of their sight," Schofield said. “They said to me, ‘don’t you dare do this on our watch. We’re supposed to be looking after you.’ “If my girls hadn’t been there, I wouldn’t be here, because I don’t see a future. And so how much do you want a man to take? “And this is how Caroline Flack felt, and it didn’t stop.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Flack quit ITV2’s reality show Love Island in December 2019 after facing an assault charge over an altercation with her boyfriend. She died by suicide two months later amid intense criticism online and in the press. Now, after Schofield referenced her daughter’s experience in his BBC interview, Caroline Flack’s mother Christine spoke to Newsnight and confirmed she does “feel worried for him” amid the “relentless” comments around the scandal. After presenter Victoria Derbyshire read Schofield’s remarks to Ms Flack, she replied: “That’s exactly how she felt. Everyday, she’d try and be a little bit stronger, which I imagine Phillip is, and you get more and more thrown at you. “He knew Caroline, and I must say when she died he was very upset, and I think he’s now realising even more what she went through. But until it happens to you, you feel sad, but you don’t understand.” Asked what her message to Schofield would be, Ms Flack added: “I hope they’ll get over this, and they will. They will. “Don’t do anything silly. You’ve got your daughters, you’ve got your friends.“ Ms Flack has since been commended online for her comments on social media. In his lengthy interview with the BBC, Schofield also said the fact the scandal has become “so massive” is “predominantly homophobic”, and that he is a “victim of hate”. Sir Keir Starmer mocked for bizarre Labour party conference photoshoot
Sir Keir Starmer is being mocked for his strange pose on the cover of Labour’s annual conference programme. The political party’s annual conference is taking place in Liverpool on 8 - 11 October 2023 and brochures have been released ahead of time to promote the event. Pictures of the programme shared on X/Twitter have got people talking, as they feature a large picture of the Labour leader Starmer on the front cover. Starmer is pictured in a side profile against a grey background, prompting some severe mockery poking fun at his perceived reputation for having “no personality”. Others pointed out that it resembles an album cover for a musician more than a conference programme. One person on X/Twitter mocked: “‘Keir Starmer, former session musician with The Moody Blues, announces his debut solo album, Annual Conference. A melange of soft rock, mellow jazz and blue eyed soul, this has been given 5 stars in Q Magazine’.” Another wrote: “Cult of no personality.” Someone else added: “Keir Starmer: “For the Me, not the You.” “This is objectively hilarious. Imagine the meeting to discuss the various design options,” wrote another. One person joked: “If you’ve always wanted a soft focus portrait of Keir Starmer for your wall, you’re in luck with the #lab23 conference programme.” “Labour drops its new conference brochure/Keir Starmer greatest hits album cover,” wrote a Tory Twitter account. According to Labour’s website, the annual conference will host “inspiring speeches, invaluable training and an events timetable that makes the most of every minute, it’s a real opportunity to be a part of democracy in action”. Elvis Presley killed himself over guilt at having so many 'young lovers', stepbrother claims
Elvis Presley's stepbrother believes the singer died by suicide over the guilt of having many young lovers. In a new documentary called Elvis’ Women on Prime, David Stanley alleged that Elvis "premeditated taking the medications that killed him," and he "just couldn't go on." Stanley, who was a part of the star's entourage throughout the seventies, was at Graceland on the day of Elvis' death in August 1977. He died from a heart attack due to a drug overdose. The 85-year-old claimed it was down to "love, hurt, pain, exposure — he just couldn’t take it any more" after believing it was down to his fears of reported relationships with young girls that could have been exposed in a book. "His taste for young girls, aged 15 or 16, made me sick," his stepbrother said in the series, adding that it was a "miracle" he wasn't "busted". "He got away with things most people didn’t because of his money, fortune, fame and power, charisma and magnetism. Elvis could talk the socks off you," he continued. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The series includes interviews with women who claimed to be involved with Elvis at a young age, one of which being Jackie Rowland, who went to see Elvis in concert at the age of 13. She said her mother realised she had a crush on the star and made a pact that if she lost weight, she would be taken to the concert. "I went on the Elvis Love Diet and lost 80lb in a year," she said, which prompted her mother to write to Elvis to explain the effect he had on her. The star allegedly invited them to meet him with his own parents, Gladys and Vernon Presley. Elvis allegedly started nibbling her ear and licking her neck. She claimed: "I told him to stop,’ and he said: ‘Oh Mrs Rowland, what is the matter with your daughter? She is not normal.'" Indy100 reached out to Elvis' estate for comment.
