LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Marvel' actor Eka Darville's 10-year-old son Mana has died after battling a rare type of brain tumor.
The Australian actor's mother, Malaika Darville, posted a heartbreaking video revealing that her grandson succumbed to the disease in the US over the weekend.
Eka, 34, is best known for his roles in 'Power Rangers' and 'Marvel'.
What caused Eka Darville's son's death?
Based on the details given in the GoFundMe page organized by Eka, his son collapsed on the beach with a massive seizure in July 2022. He was misdiagnosed with a brain abnormality, Focal Cortical Dysplasia.
But, even after six months of treatment, there were no improvements in the child's condition.
An MRI taken on January 18, 2023, found two tumors in Mana's brain. The doctors could only remove 60% of one tumor in the emergency surgery conducted in Australia, where he was later diagnosed with aggressive glioneuronal brain cancer. The actor later shifted his son to the US for proper treatment.
"Three grueling surgeries, 2 continents, countless therapies and Mana's undeniable will… 8 months later he is still with us. Still fighting," wrote Eka on the GoFundMe page.
However, the tumor rapidly grew back, eventually leading to his tragic death at the tender age of 10 years.
Eka Darville and his family mourns Mana's death
Eka, his wife Lila Darville, Mana's younger brothers, Zion and Axe, and his grandparents, are heartbroken over his death. The devastated family posted a video on the Let's Go Mana page on Instagram.
"I still wanted to come together in this prayer because he's still always gonna be with us and he's still with us," said Mana's grandmother Malaika.
"You can imagine the amount of sadness and grief of Eka, Lila and Lila's parents, his grandparents, myself, his little brothers."
"But at the same time, there's a lot of joy. There's a lot of peace. There's a lot of stillness in the house after such a long struggle for 463 days since the whole ordeal began. And now he's free. Now he's dancing in the light. We all see it, we feel it and I know that many of you, like myself, loved Mana eternally."
She went on to describe her late grandson as someone who "managed to touch more hearts than most do in a whole lifetime."
"And he will continue to touch hearts with his story, courage and strength and wisdom coming in to the highest frequencies of the ascended masters, the angelic realms, the angels, the light help guide man to pour our love into his soul."
Actors like Isabel Lucas and Teresa Palmer paid tribute to Mana and sent their condolences to the grieving family.
