NORFOLK, VIRGINIA: Paul Costict, best known for being a member of the 90s rap collective B-Rock and The Bizz, has died at the age of 57.
The rap artist 'unexpectedly' died at his Norfolk, Virginia, home on Saturday, October 21, a family member told TMZ but declined to reveal the cause of his death.
The family member also revealed that they had spoken to him on Wednesday before his death, noting he “seemed to be in good spirits … but mentioned recently being sick.”
Who was Paul Costict?
Costict was one of the original members of B-Rock & the Bizz, which was famously known for being the first rap group from Mobile, Alabama.
Formed in 1986, the hip-hop collective included producer, rapper, and singer, Baron 'B-Rock' Agee, his brother Leevirt Agee, Thaddeus 'T-Bird' Maye, and Costict.
After being discovered at a talent event, the quintet signed to the Miami-based label Pound 4 Pound Records and released the smash song 'Do Dat Dance' in 1992, according to the NY Post.
B-Rock and the Bizz shot to fame after releasing the 1997 chartbuster single 'My Baby Daddy' from their debut album 'Porkin’ Beans & Wienes'.
Despite the group being considered to be a one-hit wonder, their legacy continues in the hip-hop community. In 2022, a heavily pregnant Rihanna paid homage to B-Rock and the Bizz by strolling hand in hand with her boyfriend A$AP Rocky while sporting a T-shirt that said, 'Dat's just my baby daddy'.
Costic was presented with a plaque for 'My Baby Daddy’s' Gold certification. The plaque was fought over in an episode of TV show 'Divorce Court' where Costict made an appearance to request the restoration of his gold album.
His now ex-wife Lasancious took him to court arguing she was entitled to the plaque as he eventually lost his money following the success of the song.
