LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ben Affleck has been an a-list celebrity for the longest time with some great hits that include ‘Good Will Hunting,’ ‘Gone Girl,’ and ‘Justice League’ amongst several others. While Affleck has had some brilliant and profitable years, 2023 isn’t one of them. With almost half the year gone by already, Affleck has appeared in two films ‘AIR’ and ‘Hypnotic’ and neither of them has performed too well. Can Affleck recover in 2023 amidst the rumors of his failing marriage with Jeniffer Lopez?
‘Hypnotic’ is Affleck’s most recent release and frankly, after the loss, Affleck might just have to take a step back and recuperate before diving back into Hollywood after 'The Flash'. ‘Hypnotic’ is an action-thriller, directed by Robert Rodriguez, which was released on May 12, 2023, and the opening-weekend numbers are more than enough to gauge just how badly the film is going to do for the rest of the weeks that follow.

Expensive film, unexpected results
According to The Hollywood Reporter, ‘Hypnotic’ cost $65 million to make, which is a big number for an action-thriller. The opening weekend of this film was an instant flop with less than $2.5 million domestically, which is a nightmarish number. If this proves anything, it is the fact that even a star-studded cast with someone like Affleck in the center isn’t enough to save a film like ‘Hypnotic.’ This film has a lot to make up at the box office in the coming weeks. Affleck might have the charms and looks, but they clearly weren’t helpful in getting people to make their way to the theatres and watch ‘Hypnotic’
Is Ben Affleck losing his touch?
‘Hypnotic’ isn’t a one-off incident, especially not in 2023, for Affleck. ‘AIR’ which was one of his most-anticipated movies, also didn’t make many profits despite the exciting premise. While ‘AIR’ and ‘Hypnotic’ might have flopped, Affleck still has a chance to make up for this abysmal loss. ‘The Flash’ movie is set to release in June 2023, and Affleck will be returning as Batman! Now, that’s one role he simply can’t mess up, but given his track record, fans might be a little nervous. ‘The Flash’ might be Affleck’s last chance in 2023 to prove that he is still a part of the game and will continue being an A-list celebrity with some great movies in the future!
‘The Mother’ versus ‘Hypnotic’
Amidst all the marital rumors regarding Affleck and his wife Jennifer Lopez, the release of both their films hasn’t seemed to help the cause either. Funnily enough, ‘The Mother’ and ‘Hypnotic’ were both released on the same day, and it almost felt like a competition between the husband-wife duo, whose marriage has been in the headlines of several tabloids. According to sources, Lopez is worried that Affleck and her might split, and this wouldn’t be the first time. Could this have potentially hampered ‘Hypnotic’ and ‘AIR’? One can hope that Affleck keeps his marital problems aside before becoming Batman once again.
You can watch ‘Hypnotic’ in theatres near you from May 12, 2023.
