HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA: Shamed Congressman George Santos, who according to his brief roommate, frequently used different aliases, is facing heightened legal scrutiny as the US Attorney in the Eastern District of New York has levied an additional ten counts against him.
In light of these political developments, Jimmy Kimmel left no opportunity to mock the representative and went as far as to hire an actor to play Santos on a recent episode of his show.
Jimmy Kimmel calls out George Santos for racking up criminal charges
Jimmy Kimmel started the segment by saying, "George Santos is now facing 23 criminal charges. Just to give that some perspective, the BTK killer only had 10 charges against him."
He continued, "Santos has been indicted on charges of conspiracy wire fraud, falsifying records, and the most Photoshop ever used in a single headshot."
Kimmel then shared a video, showcasing an encounter between Santos and reporters, who were asking him if he stole people's identities, and the Congressman seemingly pushed one of the reporters, culminating in assault.
Kimmel then said, "Now he's got an assault charge too....this is snowballing!"
Subsequently, the show had a skit with a hired actor, highlighting how Santos has been allegedly deceiving people using false names.
What is Santos accused of?
Facing a mounting legal battle, the New York Republican, Congressman George Santos, who was previously indicted in May of 13 charges, now confronts an additional 10 counts.
Federal prosecutors assert that Santos made false statements to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and further obstructed the FEC by falsifying records.
The NPR states that the charges extend to include identity theft, device fraud, and wire fraud, amplifying the legal challenges for the first-term Congressman.
For further context, in a revelation in January, a former roommate of the disgraced Long Island Rep George Santos disclosed that the now-Republican Congressman grappled with "delusions of grandeur," frequently faced financial challenges, and adopted a different name during their brief period of cohabitation.
As per the New York Post, Santos went by "Anthony Devolder," combining his middle name and his mother’s maiden name.
