LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kirk Franklin, a Grammy Award-winning artist, has stated that his son's decision to publicly release a contentious phone conversation between them has resulted in the "most difficult two years of my life." In March 2021, Kirk's 35-year-old estranged son, Kerrion Franklin, recorded a private exchange between them and posted it on Instagram. On the tape, Kirk was heard threatening Kerrion, saying "I will put my foot in your a**" and "I will break your neck, (N-word)." Additionally, Kirk hurled a series of profanity-laced insults at his son. The next day, Kirk apologized to his fans for his behavior in the recorded conversation.
"It traumatizes me to this day. It is very difficult, and my wife [Tammy] will tell you," Kirk now tells Page Six. The 53-year-old says that his rant didn’t come out of the blue. "That tape was a reflection of years of what our family dynamic has been going through, just so you know," he said, "You don’t have that type of anger out there without there being a history of something."

What was the father-son feud about?
According to Kerrion, he has been separated from his family for years and has very little communication with his father. The description for the recording read, "This is why I'm done. No father should speak to their children like this. If I have any issues it's because Of this type of treatment that ii deal with behind closed doors. Hanging up in my face, No apology, no compassion, no effort. Stop telling me to go home to my family I don't even know where they live. I don't think I'll ever trust my father to be alone around him ever again. I didn't want to do this. I probably won't release the entire recording because It's too embarrassing that Im even dealing with this. No matter what ppl think I pray my dad deals with his deep hatred toward me. I don't feel sate around him at all. This recording is recent it is not from 2018 just to clarify. Im going to learn from these experiences, live my life in pease and make beautiful art."
Back in March 2021, the gospel singer released an apology video in which he acknowledged that he is "not perfect." "Recently, my son and I had an argument that he chose to record. I felt extremely disrespected in that conversation and I lost my temper, and I said words that are not appropriate," the singer said. "I am sincerely sorry to all of you, I sincerely apologize." He goes on to say, "I’m not perfect, I’m a human and I’m going to make mistakes, and I’m trying to get it right. Please keep me and my family in your prayers."
