CLEVELAND, OHIO: Less than two weeks ago, at WWE's Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia, Logan Paul defeated Rey Mysterio to win the United States championship. Since then, the social media celebrity has got a lot of recognition for his performance in that game.
Notably, Paul's quick thinking saved Mysterio from a potentially disastrous fall onto his neck when he came off the ropes, skipping Paul and going straight for the mat.
Jake Paul does not want credit for saving Rey Mysterio's life
The precise message—that Paul saved Mysterio's life—was highlighted in a number of headlines. Paul, being the innate marketer that he is, used a similar message to advertise the most recent edition of his podcast where he offered his thoughts on the match and the incident.
To his credit, though, he doesn't only savor the overwhelming gratitude and praise that the pro wrestling world has showered upon him. He also acknowledges the mistake he committed during the process that necessitated him saving Mysterio in the first place, as per Wrestle Ops.
He said, “Look, I’m going to come clean, because I’ve seen all these positive headlines right, ‘Logan saves Rey Mysterio’, the Mexican community going crazy, they’re praising me, saying I’m sort of a hero. So I’m like, dang, I’m being recognized for doing something cool. I’ll take it but then I looked at the clip...and upon assessing my performance, while I did think I saved Rey Mysterio, I think I also almost killed Rey Mysterio."
He added, "I think I was too far back for the move and I think he didn’t clear enough ground for the move, that’s what happened like…I was too far back & he didn’t clear enough ground we both made a mistake and I had to catch him and I wasn’t gonna not catch him. So like truthfully while I like the headlines and I like being gassed up like this, I was just doing my job."
Internet reacts to Logan Paul saving Mysterio's life
Many people shared their views as the viral clip was shared across X (formerly Twitter). A user wrote, "Logan is a real one", whereas one wrote, "Yeah this response is only going to make people praise him more."
Another person wrote, "Was opposed to Logan in WWE at first but he’s shown he belongs both in and out of the ring. One user added, "This is literally what I said lol Logan was too far back, it wasn't that Rey mistimed it."
Another person mentioned, "Fair play Logan. Reminds me of Mario Balotelli once saying: 'When I score I don't celebrate, its my job, does a postman celebrate when he delivers post?'"
