AUSTIN, TEXAS: Matthew McConaughey and wife Camila Alves share an unbreakable bond - a rarity in Hollywood where divorces are dime a dozen. The two have been married for more than a decade and are also parents to three beautiful children. However, there was a time when the 53-year-old actor was not sure if Alves would marry him.
Describing the time when he first saw her in 2006, the ‘Interstellar’ star told PEOPLE, “She moved right to left in front of my eyes across that club. It was as if she was floating. And I did not say, ‘Who is that?’ I said, ‘What is that?’ And then introduced myself. Since that evening I have not wanted to spend time with any other woman, definitely have not wanted to sleep with anyone else. I’ve not wanted to have children with anyone else other than her.”

But the ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ actor also shared that getting a yes from the Brazilian model was not an easy task for him. Sharing the proposal moment from 2011, McConaughey told Esquire, “I remember hitting the knee, looking into her eyes, and . . .I remember her face. I remember this smile coming up from her feet. I remember her having to catch her breath. And she didn't say yes right away. And then the whole family was going, Jeezus, she's gonna say no.”
The family was, however, wrong as Alves herself wanted to marry the actor and had a star-studded wedding at their Texas mansion. Personalities like Jim Toth, John Cougar Mellencamp, Woody Harrelson, Reese Witherspoon, and Meg Ryan were in attendance. For their vows, McConaughey and Alves did not say them aloud. A source reportedly said, “No one knows what they said, but you could tell it was emotional because she was teary-eyed. Matthew loves her, there's no doubt about that.”
The couple had their first child Levi McConaughey in 2008 before they tied the knot. Their second child, a daughter named Vida Alves McConaughey, was also born before their marriage. But their youngest one, Livingston Alves McConaughey, came to this earth in 2012. McConaughey isn’t satisfied with the number of children, though, as he once shared as reported by Us Weekly, “I’d like to have eight more kids, but my wife, [Camila Alves, is] not on the same page. I understand that. It’s a lot easier for us [men].”
Secret behind their amazing bond
McConaughey reportedly once said, “We have a love that we never question.” Besides, Alves told Chat Books, “It is really about having respect for your partner and keeping your curiosity alive. People say ‘keep the fire alive’ — I say keep the curiosity alive in how you both can still evolve and love each other in that evolution.”
