LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Nathan Lane, who won praise for his role in 'The Birdcage', has once again demonstrated the significant role humor plays in our lives. His hilarious take on the "separation" of Hollywood power couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith has left fans laughing heartily.
The Tony Award-winning actor humorously commented on Will and Jada's split during his appearance on 'Late Night with Seth Meyers' on Friday, October 20. His amusing take on what is usually a sensitive subject was well-received, leading fans to label him as "one funny man."
Nathan Lane mocks Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith
In a recent conversation with Seth Meyers, Nathan Lane humorously discussed the idea of penning a memoir, similar to Jada Pinkett Smith’s newly published 'Worthy'.
He playfully suggested that his own revelations might not be as dramatic or surprising as those of Pinkett Smith.
Lane stated, "I don’t have many bombshells like Jada Pinkett Smith revealing she and Will Smith have been secretly separated for seven years. ... As the kids would say, WTF!"
Pinkett Smith's practically nonstop publicity tour for her memoir has been full of surprising disclosures, including the shocking truth that she and Smith have reportedly remained married despite an extended separation, as per Daily Beast.
"Will and I had pictures in our mind of what a happily married couple was," Pinkett Smith penned. "And our pictures didn’t match. Inevitably, we came to the proverbial stage of irreconcilable differences. That realization became starkly apparent by 2016," she added.
Despite their multiple attempts to mend their relationship, Pinkett Smith confessed, "We were tired from not finding a middle ground. We’d been on a seesaw for too long."
Lane made the amusing suggestion that the couple's recently disclosed divorce was kept a "secret" even from each other.
"They work together, they raised the children, they attended events as a couple. It seems like maybe it was a secret even from them!" he said.
Lane joked, "I started to wonder maybe my husband and I are secretly separated here," in light of the Smith revelations.
"All this time I just thought he was in the other room watching bad reality shows. I guess I won't figure it out until he gets up and slaps someone at the Tony Awards," he added.
