LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In an astounding episode of ‘Jeopardy!’ on Wednesday night, June 7, all three contestants were on the verge of breaking an embarrassing record that had been in place since the 2005 'Ultimate Tournament of Champions'. Suresh Krishnan, a networking engineer from Suwanee, Georgia, faced Collette Lee, a middle school math teacher from Paxton, Illinois, and Kristine Rembach, a human rights lawyer from Ghent, New York. Suresh had recently beaten three-day champion Jared Watson and looked to continue his winning run.
However, it appeared that Suresh and his two contenders were not up to the task on the night. The ‘Jeopardy!’ round went smoothly but the 'Double Jeopardy' categories saw a drought of answers from the contestants. There was silence as all three players missed 16 clues out of 30, and 23 missed clues out of 60 overall.
Triple Stumper - Triple Buzz
During the 'Double Jeopardy' round, there was one constant sound echoing across the studio. It was a three-buzz sound that went on and on, as all the contestants either missed the clues or made a wrong guess, not making any effort to understand the category. However, it was Kristine who broke the curse and managed to answer the last Daily Double correctly as the audience in the studio breathed a sigh of relief and applauded.
It was Kristine who lead the board with $8,500 while entering Final Jeopardy as Suresh and Collette managed a mere $7,000 and $3,500. However, it was Suresh who triumphed at the end of the night as he took his two-day winning total to $21,099. The underwhelming episode received a lot of flak from ‘Jeopardy!’ Fans who called it one of the “worst” episodes of ‘Jeopardy!’, citing the barrage of missing clues by all three contestants.
'That certainly was a lot of beep beep beeps'
Suresh, Kristine, and Collette endured a poor run with their lack of knowledge about the category of 'Double Jeopardy', and the fans were not letting their below-the-par performances slide. On Reddit, one fan wrote, “That certainly was a lot of beep beep beeps (triple stumpers)’ while the other wrote, “I've never seen more triple stumpers.” One fan mocked the contestants by mentioning an easy clue that they missed. “Name a Cabinet Secretary. Literally any Cabinet Secretary. Beep beep beep.” There was also an angry fan who couldn’t help but prey on the contestant’s ignorance as they wrote, "As a 36-year-old, the triple stumpers in the 90s kid category made me yell at my screen the most.” But one fan simply summed it up with, “That was just not fun to watch.” One of the contestants, Collette knew she would be in big trouble among the fans for not knowing the answers to so many questions. She wrote, “Kristine and I commented on that to each other before Final, saying that we were worried we'd go viral for not knowing anything!”
The three contestants were fortunate to avoid an all-time embarrassing record of Triple Stumpers (24) but couldn’t do away without the wrath of the angry fans.
