How did Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick meet?
Parker and Broderick first met on the Broadway scene in 1991 through the former’s brothers, 'Pippin and Toby,' who founded the Naked Angels Theater Company. At the time Broderick directed a play at the siblings’ theatre. During a 1996 interview with the New York Times, Parker revealed that Broderick asked her out via voicemail. “He left a very charming, very self-effacing message on the machine,” Parker recalled. “You know, ‘Hi, it's Matthew Broderick.’ You had to use your last name,” she added.
Last year, Broderick appeared on ‘Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen’ and said it was love at first sight for him. “Oh, the first time I met her I saw her walking down the street and thought ‘That's it,’” the actor shared.
After nearly five years of dating, Parker and Broderick made their Broadway debut together in a play titled ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.’ The following year, the couple tied the knot at New York City’s Angel Orensanz Synagogue in an Episcopal ceremony officiated by Broderick’s sister, Janet. The pair welcomed their first child, son James, in 2002. Parker and Broderick’s twin daughters, Marion and Tabitha, were born via surrogacy in 2009.
