LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Imane Anys, widely known as Pokimane, has at last addressed the accusations made against her new company, Myna Snacks. The well-known Twitch broadcaster responded to the allegations on X (formerly Twitter).
For background, a lot of people noticed that Myna Snacks' Midnight Mini Cookies looked identical to a product from another business, which led to a lot of controversy surrounding the product's launching.
Pokimane addresses accusations against Myna Snacks
Pokimane has addressed the charges with a post on X with the caption, "There's been some confusion about the product I launched, and I'm here to set the record straight."
She acknowledged that the same maker makes Toatzy's Midnight Mini Cookies. But the inventor also mentioned the differences between these two items.
The Twitch celebrity had been teasing a career announcement for some time, and a few days ago, she made it public by revealing the creation of her new business, Myna Snacks.
Fans and other content creators responded really well at first. But when some Internet detectives discovered that the name of the cookies was strikingly similar to what Toatzy was selling, controversy ensued.
Many people swiftly saw the comparison posts and began accusing Pokimane of rebranding an already-existing product.
Pokimane says Myna Snacks' cookie recipe is unique
The Canadian-Moroccan streamer has clearly taken notice of the situation, as evidenced by the following statement, "The batch of Myna cookies we're currently shipping were made three weeks ago."
She went on to say, "They are not a drop-shipped product, and we own our formula. The cookies they are being compared to were also made by our manufacturer, Creation Foods."
"The compared cookies had one test batch sold before they were retired. Months later, we partnered with Creation Foods and fell in love with the flavor profile of the midnight cookie," she further added.
She went on to say that even if the ingredients in the two products might seem identical, Myna Snacks' cookie recipe is unique and combines Toatzy's Midnight Mini Cookies' flavor with its own.
She claims that this produces a "completely different" product. She stated the following, "We then decided to work together to refine and improve the formula, and we're really happy with the final product."
The Twitch queen continued, "While the ingredients list may look similar, they are entirely different in terms of ingredient quality, quantity/ratios, sourcing, the size/texture of the cookie, and of course the added vitamin D."
Pokimane also asserted that the industry's use of other items to refine formulations is rather widespread, saying, "Refining formulas is a very common practice in the food industry + around 70-80% of the foods you see in grocery stores are white labeled."
