LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Over more than two decades, ‘The View’ has welcomed some very interesting on the talk show. These range from celebrities to politicians, and no matter who comes along, there’s always something to look forward to. In the most recent episode of ‘The View,’ co-hosts welcomed Republican presidential candidate Senator Tim Scott. Whoopi Goldberg, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, and Alyssa Farah Griffin were all present during this segment. Although Joy Behar’s absence was felt, Hostin’s conversation with Scott was enough to fill in for anything missing.
Hostin has often been on the receiving end of some hate from all over the internet, despite some claps that she receives from the audiences on ‘The View.’ As a person of color, Hostin has been labeled racist many a time, and after this conversation with Republican Senator Scott, that has only increased tenfold. Fans of ‘The View’ were glued to their screens during this segment, after which they took to Twitter to slam Hostin, calling her a racist.
What happened between Scott and Hostin?
Hostin takes center stage when it comes to talking about Scott about racism in the USA as she begins “We have some things in common, you grew up in a single-family household, a single-mother household. I grew up with both my parents but was raised in the Bronx projects, and there’s a lot of poverty and violence.” After comparing their lives, Hostin presents Scott with a question, who listens patiently as Hostin says, “My question to you is, I’m the exception…right. You’re the exception, and maybe even Miss Whoopi Goldberg is the exception…but we are not the rule.” Hostin takes a minute to build up to her main talking point as she turns to Scott, “You have indicated that you don’t believe in systemic racism, what is your definition of systemic racism.” It takes Scott barely a second to compose himself before answering, “One of the things that I think about, and one of the reasons I’m on this show is because of the comments made on this show, that the only way for a young African-American kid to be successful in this country is to be the exception and not the rule. That is a dangerous, offensive, disgusting message to send to our young people today, is that the only way to succeed is by being the exception.”
It doesn’t take long for Hostin to interrupt Scott, as the two of them have a back-and-forth. Scott is coherent and articulate when he says, "The challenges that we faced 50 years ago and 60 years ago should not be the same challenges that we face today." All Hostin can do is nod, slightly interrupt, and sit with a smirk on his face. As Scott defends his country and the growth of African-Americans in it, the viewers and audience remain impressed with him, but not so much when it comes to Hostin.
‘Racist Sunny Hostin’
Entertainment Weekly labeled this interview on ‘The View’ with Republican Senator Scott as ‘bizarre’ and it truly puts things into perspective. Fans on Twitter and their opinions on ‘The View’ and co-hosts have often reflected on just how this talk show has progressed, and after this particular segment, ‘The View’ is under some serious scrutiny. Apart from news outlets and entertainment magazines discussing this interview, it’s the fans who make or break the success of ‘The View,’ and right now, things aren’t looking too good for Sunny Hostin. One fan tweeted, “Racist Sunny Hostin trying hard to hide her hatred of Tim Scott …#TheView” In support of Scott, another viewer tweeted, you did amazing! @sunnyhostin u got schooled! just quit u look so stupid Again! boycott ugly sunny.” Most of the folks watching ‘The View’ haven’t held back as one wrote, ”Sunny Hostin is a liberal white woman in black face.”
Those who were glued to the screen watching Tim Scott interact with the co-hosts on ‘The View’ have also taken the time to make fun of Hostin’s appearance as one tweet says, Sunny Hostin is a low IQ racist who colors her hair blonde and had 75% of her nose reduced in size. @TheView @sunny.” Fans of ‘The View’ seem angered by Hostin’s continued presence on the talk show as one writes, “Why is the racist Sunny Hostin allowed to continue to be on the view? Racism in any form is wrong. She should be let go. To openly say racist things about white women on a major network is pathetic.” One Twitter user has managed to summarize their emotions about Hostin and added, “Sunny Hostin. A racist and bigot.”
