SANDY SPRINGS, GEORGIA: From Xtina to Gloria Gaynor, from dance-floor hits to soaring ballads, these songs give a spirit of optimism and freedom that has carried the community through difficult times. But when Kenya Moore's 'Gone With The Wind Fabulous' was awarded Rolling Stone's number one most inspirational LGBTQ song, the internet couldn't agree.
Music has served as a beacon of light for the LGBTQ community, serving as both a call to celebration and a source of consolation at times. The songs recording the LGBT experience are as varied as the community itself, and serve as a reminder that everyone's story unfolds at their own pace. While there have been numerous legendary anthems to soundtrack Pride parties and LGBT gatherings alike, there are just as many songs to listen to when you're feeling down. These are the songs that have inspired Rolling Stone editors, as well as millions of people, on their personal journeys. There's something here for everyone, whether you're hurting, healing, or simply learning to love yourself.
‘Gone With The Wind Fabulous’
If there's one thing LGBTQ+ people appreciate more than music, it's a well-organized playlist. Rolling Stone has the same fervor, but its huge, splashy lists continue to be dismissed. When the music magazine issued its list of the "greatest singers of all time" earlier this year, fans were outraged that Cher and Céline Dion were not included.
But when TV Deets wrote "‘Gone With The Wind Fabulous’ by Kenya Moore has been named the number 1 most inspirational LGBTQ song, according to Rolling Stone," on Twitter, it created quite a ruckus amongst users.
'Erika Jayne was found shaking!'
Even though there was no official mention of 'Gone With The Wind Fabulous' in Rolling Stone's list, angry fans were quick to react to the tweet. One asked, "Over Born This Way? Who the fuck created that list? Brooklyn?" Another chimed in, "Yet she flopped at Bravocon." One user asked, "Which LGBTQ Is this??" Speaking of her 'The Real Housewives of Atlanta' co-star, one user tweeted, "Marlo is gonna have a fit when she sees this."
One user also noted, "that's a cute song, but definitely not the #1." Another person further commented, "It’s in my top 10 but number 1??" One user joked the list might be drawn by 4-year-old daughter, "Not brooklynn wrote the list Chile." Another user joked referring to a fellow 'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' star, "Erika Jayne was found shaking!"
