MIAMI, FLORIDA: Tom Cruise remains one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors at age 60, but it seems even megastars can get rejected at times. The action hero is said to have set his sights on dating Shakira earlier this week, but the Colombian songstress appears to have knocked him back.
Social media went bonkers after Shakira, 46, was spotted chatting with the 'Top Gun: Maverick' star at the 2023 Miami Grand Prix on Sunday, May 7. Meanwhile, a source close to the actor told Page Six he believed there was some chemistry between them and that he wanted to pursue a relationship with her. However, another source close to the 'She Wolf' songstress said she found the dating rumors "hilarious" and that she has no plans to take things further despite having a "fun" time with Cruise when they met at the F1 event.

'She has a lot on her plate'
“Shakira had a great time hanging out with Tom at F1 but she has no interest in dating him,” the insider told Us Weekly. “He was really nice and she enjoyed his company, but she isn’t focused on dating him or anybody else at the moment. She has a lot on her plate and is focused on her kids and career for now.”
One can argue that Cruise has a type, especially after he previously dated Sofia Vergara and Penelope Cruz. This further fueled his romance rumors with Shakira. After the duo was spotted hanging out at the Florida sporting event, the internet went into a frenzy over a possible connection. While the Grammy winner and the 'Mission Impossible' star posed together at the racetrack, the insider said the photo op was nothing more than platonic.
“Shakira has seen the online rumors that Tom has been courting her — and how fans are chiming in with their opinions — but she thinks it’s hilarious because it’s just not true,” the source explained. “She had a fun time when they chatted, but that’s as far as things have gone.”
Past relationships
Shakira announced her split from longtime boyfriend, soccer star Gerard Pique, 36, last year, ending a 12-year relationship. “We regret to confirm that we are separating,” they said in a joint statement in June 2022. “For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy.”
Earlier this year, the 'Whenever Wherever' singer revealed she was leaving her longtime home in Barcelona, Spain, with her children. “I settled in Barcelona to give my children a stability, the same we are now looking for in another corner of the world next to family, friends and the sea,” she posted on Instagram in April. “Today we start a new chapter in the pursuit of their happiness. Thank you to everyone who surfed alongside my many waves there in Barcelona, the city where I learned that friendship is certainly longer than love," she added.
On the other hand, Cruise has been married thrice. The actor first tied the knot with Mimi Rogers in 1987. The duo, however, divorced three years later.
He eventually met Nicole Kidman on the set of 'Days of Thunder' and married her in 1990. The couple had daughter Isabella, 30, and son Connor, 28, before divorcing in 2001.
Cruise was subsequently married to Katie Holmes from 2006 to 2012.
The couple welcomed daughter Suri Cruise, 17, in April 2006.
