LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: JLo's followers were curious about her surname after her surprise wedding to Ben Affleck in 2022. The stunning pop artist startled everyone when she revealed that since the couple is "joined together," her legal name will be "Mrs Affleck." Since then, the singer has been under fire from many who think it was unfeminist of her to take her husband's last name.
The 'Jenny from the Block' singer spoke out about her decision to adopt Ben's last name although she is still recognized in the entertainment industry as Jennifer Lopez. The 53-year-old pop icon has blasted critics stating that although she would still go by her maiden name, she would now be known legally as Mrs Affleck. The power couple is reportedly ready to make a "power move" into their new $60.85 million estate in Beverly Hills, California after two years of looking, TMZ reports. Lopez recently listed her $42 million Bel Air mansion for sale, and Affleck last year sold his $28 million Pacific Palisades bachelor pad.
'No one is going to call her Jennifer Affleck'
Many Twitter users disapproved of JLo's decision to change her name. "Ben Lopez would’ve sounded way better," a fan tweeted at the time while another said, "Only non civilised country let the woman take the husband name." "No one is going to call her jennifer affleck," remarked someone else.
'I just feel it’s romantic'
'The Mother' icon, however, claimed she enjoyed the "tradition" and "romance" of adopting Ben's last name. "I’m very much in control of my own life and destiny and feel empowered as a woman and as a person. I can understand that people have their feelings about it, and that’s okay, too," she stated. "But if you want to know how I feel about it, I just feel like it’s romantic. It still carries tradition and romance to me, and maybe I’m just that kind of girl," the icon revealed to Vogue.
