LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Singer Joel Madden's personal growth significantly accelerated with the introduction of Nicole Richie into his life.
The singer of 'Bail Me Out,' who has been in a relationship since 2006, is marking 17 years of their partnership and also imparted some advice to their children.
The artist expressed, "You know what, I try to tell my kids to be yourself and to love yourself because it took me a long time to learn that. Nicole was a big part of that."
Joel Madden showed up on ‘The Tamron Hall Show’
Madden made an appearance on 'The Tamron Hall Show' on Tuesday, November 7th.
In discussing his remarkable connection with Nicole, the artist remarked, "She's beautiful. She’s been the greatest partner and you know, I feel lucky."
He went on to say, "But I think – you know, you're talking about putting yourself out there and I think you can put yourself out there in the wrong way too. So you have to love yourself first and I think you have to put yourself out there in the right way."
“The only thing I've done longer than 17 years is the band," he added.
In a previous conversation with ET Canada in 2022, Madden's partner Nikole Richie revealed that there is no hidden formula for their successful relationship. She stated, “I don’t have a secret. We just let each other be ourselves. We have fun.”
She also candidly acknowledged that they encountered challenges, much like any other relationship does.
Richie expressed her desire to spend time with Joel and recounted an incident where she admitted to having lied to him back in 2006.
Richie's cute lie to Joel
“When I met him," she recalled, "he said, ‘Have you ever watched The Wire?’ And so I lied and said that I did, so he would hang out with me. Little did I know he literally dropped me in like, season 3, he’s like, ‘Oh cool, season 3, episode 4.’"
She admitted, "I pretended to know everything and it was horrible, and then I hated the show.”
Madden had a deep admiration for the 'Great News' star. He stated, "There's no way you can't fall in love with her when you get to know her,” during an interview with Diane Sawyer in 2007, as reported by People.
During one of the episodes of 60 Minutes Australia, Joel shared his thoughts on meeting Nicole for the first time, saying, "That's like a religious experience. That's like a life-changing, cathartic event. Meeting the person you know is going to be your wife."
Joel expressed, "She's my best friend. She's the only person I've ever met who has had as much influence on my life as my brother Benji."
The couple has two children together, Harlow, aged 15, and Sparrow, aged 13.
