TEXAS: Participants in 'The Ultimatum: Queer Love' choose to take part in the show, knowing that their initial partner may fall in love with someone else. Vanessa Papa (she/her) and Mal Wright's (she/her/they) worst-case scenario became a reality when their girlfriends, Xander Boger (she/her/they) and Yoly Rojas (she/her), fell in love.
Season 1 of 'The Ultimatum: Queer Love' was a tumultuous and crazy trip, especially for Xander and Yoly. Before participating in the show, both women issued marriage ultimatums to their previous boyfriends. They did, however, fall in love with one other. This left it up to them to stay with their relationships or select each other in the finals. Yoly debuted on 'The Ultimatum: Queer Love' Season 1 with Mal, while Xander debuted with Vanessa. Before participating in the show, both couples had been dating for several years. While Mal and Vanessa were both conflicted about marriage, witnessing their partners fall in love pushed them to reconsider proposing. This caused Vanessa and Mal to try to stay with their original partners, despite the fact that Yoly and Xander fell in love. Fans are now calling out Yoly for the way she treated Mal and later accepted her proposal, only to rekindle her romance with Xander after watching what happened during the reunion.
Xander approached Yoly after Mal's proposal
On June 7, Netflix released the season's last two episodes, which included the much anticipated Ultimatum Day, in which the couples choose whether to get engaged or part up, as well as the cast reunion.
As it turned out, Xander and Vanessa separated, while Yoly consented to marry Mal. Yoly was thrown a curveball, however, when Xander contacted her immediately after Mal's proposal and proposed they rekindle their romance. Despite her feelings for Xander, Yoly decided to give Mal a chance and ended her relationship with Xander for good, leaving them both distraught.
Yoly stated during the reunion that she and Mal parted ways a few weeks after the show, while Xander remained single. That prompted viewers — and anchor JoAnna Garcia Swisher — to wonder: did Yoly and Xander rekindle their romance after Yoly's engagement ended?
Despite the fact that Xander stated that they were "in each other's journey for a little bit," she and Yoly finally chose to part and focus on themselves.
'Wouldn't trust her with my life kinda vibes'
Reacting to the scene where Yoly took off her engagement ring from Mal to meet Xander, a viewer wrote on Reddit, "As soon as I saw she took Mal's ring off to go talk to Xander my entire opinion on her changed. That was SO dirty, and for what?! So she could hopefully have Xander profess their love for her and then reject her by saying she was already engaged to Mal?" Another chimed in, "Seems like Yoly wanted the achievement of the ring and then wasn't all that interested anymore in actually being in the relationship. I think she was hoping Xander would propose to her too, to achieve two proposals. Maybe that's why she ended up choosing Mal, she knew Mal would definitely propose."
One user wrote, "After seeing the scene where she takes the ring off to go to talk to Xander, and her coming to the defense of Mildred who was arrested for domestic violence, it completely changed my overall opinion of her. She's dishonest, sneaky, and borderline manipulative to me. She also seemed all over the place about her feelings.. Mal and Xander both deserve better." A fourth user added, " it was Yoly’s decision to take the ring off before seeing Xander, she said it was “because I wanted to see where you were at first”. Which personally feels so damn dirty."
On Twitter, people didn't hold back on calling out Yoly's lies, "So um Yoly does kind of lie a lot, because how do you forget you were planning a trip to Hawaii??" Another person slammed her for taking off her ring as they write, "Can’t get over Yoly going to see Xander without the engagement ring. “I wanted to see where you were at.” Bi*ch you’re ENGAGED. That’s where YOU’RE at. Disrespectful as hell to Mal and Xander." Viewers also noted, "Yoly taking off her ring after she freshly said yes to Mal's proposal just to see how much/if Xander wanted her really is wild behaviour... I wouldn't trust her with my life kinda vibes." A fourth Twitter user wrote, "it's rubbing me the wrong way that yoly said she came across like "an ad for polyamory" in the ultimatum queer love finale. no, polyamory is fully disclosed and consented to by all parties. what you had, my love, was a full-blown affair lmao."
'The Ultimatum: Queer Love' is airing now on Netflix in its entirety.
