Release date of Tom Cruise starrer 'Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1' rescheduled
In the movies, Cruise has pulled off some death-defying stunts, including climbing the Burj Khalifa, hanging midair from a plane and even jumping from one building to another with a broken ankle.
Nerves of steel
In a recent interview on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live', Cruise spoke about a thrilling entire bike stunt in the upcoming action movie. In the stunt, he has to ride a motorbike down a ramp on a cliff in Norway before jumping off the edge, letting go of the bike and then parachuting. Fans were thrilled to see certain stunts such as fighting on a speeding train and jumping from a collapsing train car in the teaser of 'Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1'.
Cruise claimed that he had to properly open his parachute while free-falling through the air with only six seconds to spare before hitting the earth. Despite the pressure, he made it plain that he wasn't "counting." It surely took nerves of steel to do such a life-threatening deed, and the actor once again proved why he does not use stunt doubles.
‘Tom created a master plan’
The stunt required months of preparation. Prior to the leap, Cruise practiced skydiving to gain a sense of the "rock bowl" he would have to exit after successfully opening his parachute.
“There is a lot going into this stunt. Tom created a master plan to coordinate all of the experts in the various fields involved in order to make this happen," director Christopher McQuarrie reportedly said. He also had the additional duty of ensuring that all of the cameras were in the proper locations to record every second of the risky stunt.
What did Cruise have to keep in mind while pulling off the stunt? He had to ensure he rode the bike correctly, avoided falling off the raised ramp, avoided becoming entangled in the motorcycle as he leaped and activated his chute at the appropriate time. He repeated the whole process six times to get the ideal shot.
