NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Today’s beloved host Craig Melvin has once again found himself in an awkward on-camera moment after an NBC producer played a backstage prank on him.
During an episode of the ‘Today’ show, a producer headed backstage to mess with Melvin who visibly got upset.
The producer playfully teased him about Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
This comes after Melvin was nominated for Sexist Morning host alongside ‘GMA' host George Stephanopoulos, ‘CBS Mornings' host Nate Burleson, and ‘Live' host Mark Consuelos.
The winner is expected to be announced on November 8.
Why did Craig Melvin get upset?
In a recent ‘Today’ broadcast, an NBC producer pulled Craig Melvin’s strings after she told him that Taylor Swift had put Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce on the map.
She said, “Craig, we know that you’re a big Chiefs fan. And we are so excited that Taylor is part of the fandom right now.”
The ‘Today’ staff member was discussing Swift's recent romance rumors with Kelce.
The producer continued saying, "It's really so sweet that she put Travis Kelce on the map though,” and at that moment, Melvin was observed rolling his eyes in irritation as he threw his head back.
He responded, “Oh my God.”
However, the producer wasn’t finished and continued to tease him as she said, “You know, like, nobody knew who he was, and now everybody knows.”
Melvin replied, “That's the worst part of the story,” and his expression showed a mix of amusement and irritation.
The two continued their playful banter about Swift’s involvement with Kelce.
Melvin expressed his frustration with the notion that Swift had made Kelce famous.
The producer asked, "So you knew who he was?"
"Yes, I did know who Travis Kelce was before the Swifties gobbled him up, yeah, I'm still a Kelce fan,” Melvin affirmed.
The final question brought a smile to Melvin’s face, "Do you have any advice for Taylor joining the Chiefs fandom?"
With a grin, he offered that Swift should, "Get ready to go to Super Bowl!"
Craig Melvin misses 'Today' show for event that's close to his heart
Earlier this week, Craig Melvin was reportedly missing from the morning show as his co-host and meteorologist Al Roker revealed his whereabouts to the viewers.
Sheinelle Jones and Roker were present during the "Today 3rd Hour" segment, and they welcomed Ally Love, a Peloton superstar who sat in for Melvin and Dylan Dreyer.
Roker went on to say that Melvin had been "at a great event for a cause that is so close to Craig's heart."
Additionally, he said, "Today is the second annual Bottom's Up Invitational, which benefits the Colorectal Cancer Alliance."
