NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Rhea Perlman, 75, and ex-husband Danny DeVito, 78, are still legally married. Perlman stressed that they remain good friends and put their family first. The pair, who met in 1971 and got married in 1982, have three children.
In a candid interview on 'Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Wiser Than Me,' podcast Perlman said despite the split, "We are still married." before adding "We are still very good friends and we see each other a lot. And our family is still the most important thing to both of us," People reported.
'I'm not gonna sugarcoat it — it was difficult'
Rhea Perlman and Danny DeVito announced their divorce in October 2012 but surprisingly reconciled in March 2013. However, their relationship faced another setback when they split up again in March 2017. Perlman acknowledged that the initial breakup was challenging and there were various reasons behind it. Over time, they managed to develop a decent understanding and maintain a positive relationship with each other.
"I'm not gonna sugarcoat it — it was difficult," Perlman spoke of DeVito. "It was very difficult at first. And there were a lot of reasons that we separated, which I'm not gonna go into. But it took time for us to come to this somehow pretty decent understanding and relationship with each other."
'No, don't set me up'
Despite living alone, Perlman admitted to feeling a sense of loneliness. When asked by Louis-Dreyfus if she would like assistance in finding a new romantic partner, Perlman jokingly replied, "No, don't set me up. Unless it's someone really wonderful, rich and famous, gorgeous, and a lot younger than me."
'She’s a good actress and I love working with her'
DeVito, in a separate 2019 interview affirmed their continued closeness, stating that they are "friends" and that everyone is happy. The former couple has frequently collaborated onscreen, notably in the TV show 'Taxi' and the film 'Matilda', where they portrayed the roles of a married couple. Despite their separation, Rhea Perlman and Danny DeVito demonstrate that a strong friendship can endure beyond the boundaries of a romantic relationship.“She’s a good actress and I love working with her," DeVito said.
