WACO TEXAS: Joanna Gaines and Chip Gaines' son, Drake Gaines, graduated from high school over the weekend, which was a major parenting accomplishment for her. Joanna, 45, paid a moving homage to her 18-year-old on Instagram by navigating a camera over several images of Drake as a child.
Joanna, who recently attended a state dinner at the White House with her husband, Chip, 48, captioned the video as she noted how quickly time passes and expressed her delight in becoming a parent. The 'Fixer Upper' star wrote, "It feels like just yesterday that we were cheering him on as he took his first steps... but last weekend, as he walked across the stage to receive his high school diploma (!!) we were cheering him on as he took his first steps into a world beyond what he's known. We're so proud of you, Drake."

'Jo's been an emotional wreck'
The Texas couple opened out about the difficult process of saying goodbye and sending Drake off to college in an interview with People in August. Chip said, "Jo's been an emotional wreck. You can quote me on that. She sees Drake off to his first day of school, which in kindergarten, it makes sense that you get really emotional. Your senior year, this is a celebratory moment."
Joanna explaining her feelings said, "I'm like, 'Oh, my gosh, I remember him being a baby and then how did this happen?' So that's where, for us, it's like, how do you slow down time? Because we know time actually doesn't slow down."
Joana was honest about how her "tight little family unit" was set to change as Drake was set to leave the nest. She said, "I think for us, it's the realization that we're this tight little family unit and we're a bigger family. There's seven of us, but knowing the second that one baby leaves, it changes that dynamic."
Chip, on the other hand, was eager to see Drake grow up and look forward to the future. "I think, like anything, we've done our job. And now with this little boy, man, whatever he is, it's going to be exciting to see what he becomes, and I think it's healthy," Chip said.
