BARCELONA, SPAIN: The longtime nanny of Shakira's children, Lili Melgar, who Gerard Pique allegedly fired without pay, makes an unexpected appearance in the singer's most recent music video 'El Jefe', meaning 'The Boss.'
Melgar previously assisted in caring for the two young sons Shakira has with the Spanish footballer.
The 'Hips Don't Lie' singer featured Melgar in her music video for her new song, 'El Jefe', which she sings in Spanish alongside Mexican band Fuerza Regida.
By including Melgar, who was apparently fired without compensation, in the video that goes along with it, Shakira further demonstrated that any lingering resentment for Pique, 36, is far from abating.
Melgar makes an unexpected appearance and turns to face the camera while furrowing her brows in apparent disapproval.
The song's lyrics and Melgar's video clip appear to be allusions to the allegation that Pique fired Melgar without pay after the latter informed Shakira about his supposed infidelity, as per The Sun.
Shakira dedicates 'El Jefe' to Lili Melgar
Several sources claim that Shakira learned about the former Barcelona player's liaisons via Melgar, who looked after the singer's children, Milan and Sasha.
As the song comes to a close, Melgar can be seen angrily glaring into the camera. She worked as Milan and Sasha's nanny and was frequently spotted with the family while they were traveling overseas.
Following many songs with references to Pique, the singer launched a fresh onslaught in 'El Jefe.'
However, it seems like she saved the best for last by making a reference to her former nanny, who makes a surprise cameo as the music video draws to a close.
Shakira's final verse on the diss track is: "This song is for you, since you weren’t paid severance/Another fart, as always," making apparent allusion to earlier allegations that Pique had expelled Melgar without compensation, per Daily Mail.
The song's title appears to be a tribute to Pique's friends' supposed nickname for Shakira, who they said did not hang out with them.
Shakira and Pique were in an open relationship, sources say
The 11-year romance between the ex-couple was officially over in June 2022, shortly after he was accused of adultery by the singer.
In response to the allegations of an affair, Pique, who has since started dating model Clara Chia Marti, insisted that there was "no infidelity on his part."
According to Spanish broadcaster Jose Antonio Aviles, Shakira and Pique were in an open relationship for three years before splitting up, per El Nacional de Catalunya.
Rumors of an open relationship were believed to have originated from Pique's close friends and family, many of whom were said to have been shocked by his ex-partner's allusions to infidelity.
Since receiving full custody of Milan and Sasha, Shakira has relocated to Miami and has been romantically involved with Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton.
Shakira's digs at Gerard Pique
The pop artist has made several digs at her ex over the years, most recently in a music video she dropped in June.
Shakira's song with Bizarrap has the line "I’m worth two 22s" in a blatant jab at Clara, who is thought to have started dating Pique at the age of 22.
Shakira appears as a mermaid in the music video for her song 'Copa Vacia', which translates to 'Empty Cup', and claims that this depicts her "journey to becoming one with herself again."
She claimed the mermaid "sacrifices a lot for love, ending up in the rubbish amongst rats."
