UNIVERSAL CITY, CALIFORNIA: Peter Pinnock, a country singer, sang 'Your Man' by Josh Turner, however, no judges turned around during his blind audition.
Even though the coaches thought the singer should continue on his musical journey, 'The Voice' Season 24 viewers were saddened to see Peter perform a terrible imitation of the country and gospel singer and songwriter.
Growing up in a single-parent family and blind in one eye, Peter found solace in music through singing and dancing as a child.
When the coaches' chairs eventually turned around after he finished, they were surprised by his choice of 'Your Man' as a song.
Gwen Stefani advised that he had to warm up his voice by opening it out. It didn't feel linked, according to John Legend, since he talks in a different accent than he sings.
Niall Horan stated that he should have selected a different song to demonstrate his typical combination of country and R&B.
Peter Pinnock called out for fake accent during 'The Voice' audition
After hearing Peter's audition, Gwen stated, "You don't look like your voice," and John believed he wasn't connecting with the false accent. Fans agreed with Niall that he needed a new song to show off his soulful side.
On YouTube, users commented, "He sounded like he was mimicking the original singer, rather than just putting himself into the song."
Another person added, "Love the song choice, not right for him. He was putting on the accent and came off very inauthentic. They wanna hear your heart and soul, not someone else's."
One user wrote further slamming the singer, "He should stop listening to whomever told him singing that song during an audition was a good idea."
A fourth user chimed in, "This can't be a serious audition? He is just doing a really bad imitation of the actual singer."
One user further wrote, "Put on accents in music only work if you actually know how to put them on." While some thought, "Sounds forced."
Another user asked, "How does this guy even get on the show...?" Others found it, "Lame."
Peter Pinnock was a backup dancer on 'The Voice' for DJ Khaled
Peter was raised by a single mother who gave birth to him when she was 17 years old. He lost sight in one of his eyes at the age of four due to an arrow mishap and discovered music to be soothing for him even at such a young age.
He began dancing instruction at a young age. Since relocating to Los Angeles, he has collaborated with a slew of A-list celebrities.
He was a backup dancer for Khaleed on the 'The Voice' stage. He's a hip-hop dancer who also sings country and has recently performed on Coachella.
Unfortunately, in his audition, he leaned heavily into the syrupy depths of this vocal, almost caricaturishly so.
The coaches couldn't get into it enough to give him a turn, but they did encourage him to find a lyric that fits his personality better the next time.
'The Voice' Season 24 airs on Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC at 9 pm ET.
