LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jada Pinkett Smith has been making a series of shocking revelations about her strained relationship with Will Smith, which made a section of fans quip that Will Smith has to “man up.”
In the press tour dedicated to her memoir ‘Worthy’, Pinkett Smith revealed that she has been separated from the ‘Aladdin’ actor for seven years.
During her interview with Hoda Kotbe of 'Today', Pinkett Smith revealed that she and Will have lived "completely separate lives" since 2016.
She explained the reason behind the separation saying, "Why it fractured...that — that’s a lot of things ... By the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be."
In another interview with People, the ‘Bad Moms’ star revealed that Chris Rock asked her out as he thought she and the ‘Emancipation’ actor were getting divorced.
Nevertheless, after she clarified it was “just rumors,” the comedian “profusely apologized.”
In another explosive interview with Rolling Out’s Christal Jordan, the ‘Magic Mike XXL’ actress revealed Tupac Shakur was her “soulmate.”
However, they lacked the spark despite experiencing “those moments” of romance, per New York Post.
What did Will Smith say about the marriage?
The Oscar-winning actor has not yet issued any statement following the explosive revelations by Pinkett Smith.
While news of their separation in 2017 was first broken by the ‘Red Table Show’ host, Smith hinted at their non-conventional marriage in 2021.
In his memoir ‘Will’, he wrote, “Our marriage wasn’t working,” before adding, “We could no longer pretend. We were both miserable and clearly something had to change.”
He later expanded on the nature of the marriage in an interview with GQ, “Jada never believed in conventional marriage.”
Adding that they were in a monogamous relationship, he added, “She grew up in a way that was very different than how I grew up.”
Smith continued, “There were significant endless discussions about, what is relational perfection? What is the perfect way to interact as a couple?”
“And for the large part of our relationship, monogamy was what we chose, not thinking of monogamy as the only relational perfection,” added Smith.
He explained, “We have given each other trust and freedom, with the belief that everybody has to find their own way. And marriage for us can’t be a prison.”
The ‘I Am Legend’ actor said, “I don’t suggest our road for anybody. I don’t suggest this road for anybody. But the experiences, the freedoms that we’ve given one another and the unconditional support, to me, is the highest definition of love.”
Following all the revealations by Pinkett Smith, netizens have slammed Smith and asked him to grow a spine. However, another faction of fans came up with several theories indicating that the entire scenario was not that simple.
'Will Smith is to blame too'
Following Jada Pinkett Smith's shocking, back-to-back revelations, netizens are telling Will Smith to grow a spine.
One of the fans said, "Will is living with a narcissist and he’s likely being verbally and mentally abused. I lived through that. Will’s only shot at any type of redemption is to get away from Jada. He’s being manipulated and the slap proved that."
Someone else said, "All true, but Will is a grown a** man. These are the decisions he made. The fact that he’s still there, tells you what kind of man he is."
"Unbelievable. Disturbing actually. He needs to divorce her," said someone else.
"I think she used him to become a star and when it didn’t happen she is bitter and trying to ruin and embarrass him," another fan quipped.
Another fan tried to theorize, "Sometimes when you’re no longer relevant, you need to cling to something that will always be….Tupac."
Someone else quipped, "Will Smith is to blame too. I don't feel too bad for him. He's allowed this to happen. One has to man up! Not standing up for Jada.'
"Sad to see Will’s career go down the tubes as a result of this," mourned a fan.
"A woman can MAKE a man, OR BREAK a man," said someone else.
Recalling the fateful Oscar moment, a fan remarked, "Will was laughing at the joke until he saw her facial expression."
Someone else quipped, "One last chance to prove to his wife he was “worthy”."
Another confused fan said, "IDK man I remember back in the day Will used to brag about their marriage being “open”.. then there’s the scientology thing.. methinks crazy street runs both ways on this one. Hard to feel sorry fpr Will Smith really. I do like him as an actor though."
A social media user hypothesized, "Jada looked gorgeous at the Oscars. So did Demi in GI Jane, which was about a woman who shaved her head for training. It was a joke about the movie. Jada hasn't been relevant in years--what actually has she acted in? She goaded Will into doing that for the publicity."
"She has to stay relevant somehow right. She’s just living off Will’s name. Not trying to discredit his career in general but ya past couple years it’s been just her slandering. If Will was doing it too it would have made sense atleast. But all one sided…," said someone else.
