Chris Hemsworth opens up about getting injured while filming 'Extraction 2': 'It's all part of the fun'

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Chris Hemsworth is back as Tyler Rake, the fearless mercenary who takes on dangerous missions around the world, in 'Extraction 2'. The Netflix sequel, which premieres on Friday, promises more action, drama, and emotion than the first film which was a huge hit for the streaming service in 2020.

Hemsworth, 39, spoke at the film’s premiere in New York City on Monday night where he revealed some of the challenges and injuries he faced while filming the movie in Prague and Croatia and getting many of the stunts wrong "Oh, yeah, yeah. Lots of bumps and scrapes and all that," Chris Hemsworth told People.

'It's all part of the fun'

Though these wounds were a part of the thrilling process, he had a good viewpoint, noting, "It's all part of the fun. It's good." Hemsworth said that he had been shaky when director Sam Hargrave first introduced the concepts to him. But his outlook immediately changed to exhilaration, as he said, "Initially when [director] Sam [Hargrave] pitched it to me, I was kind of shaking my head going, 'Hang on, hang on, how is this even possible?' And then the excitement kicks in."

'My kids were there on set a lot to see this stuff'

He went on to compare the experience to a spectacular athletic event, saying, "On the day it's like being a kid, it's like being involved in the most crazy sporting experience you've ever been a part of." Hemsworth's commitment to his profession included his family as well. The sons Sasha and Tristan, age 9, and India, age 11, each took pleasure in seeing their father in action while the movie was being filmed. "My kids were there on set a lot to see this stuff and they wanted to jump in front of the camera and participate."

'I was on fire at one point'

A 21-minute battle sequence that took a full six weeks to film was one of the movie's most taxing scenes. Hemsworth talked about the difficulties he had to overcome on GMA, including the presence of a large number of extras and even being set on fire once. "There were about three or 400 extras in the opening sequence of that shot, and things on fire — I was on fire at one point," the 'Marvel' star said.

The action star said they would "shoot for 14 hours a day," which would involve "stunt rehearsal after stunt rehearsal." The actor was speaking to ABC news anchor Linsey Davis."It was by far the most exhausting, physically draining taxing experience I have ever had." On Friday, Netflix will start streaming Extraction 2.
