Fans slam 'awful' Arctic Monkeys Glastonbury set
Fans finally got to watch Artic Monkeys' hotly anticipated Glastonbury set after they returned to the biggest weekend in music for the third time. The iconic British band took to the Pyramid stage on Friday night (23 June), playing a wide range of songs from their extensive catalogue, including old classics like 'Mardy Bum' to tracks off of their latest album, The Car. The band came on stage just after 10pm following Royal Blood as well as the mystery band 'The Churnups', who turned out to be The Foo Fighters. However, some were left disappointed by the band's performance. One Twitter user posted a video of the band's set where a man in the crowd is seen yawning with the caption "sums it up". Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Some said the band 'butchered' the show, whilst others nostalgically longed for the time the band was "good". "I'm sorry but I refuse to believe anyone enjoys watching Arctic Monkeys live," wrote one user. "They sound so off beat, slow and lazy." Others called frontman Alex Turner "pretentious": However, many still enjoyed the set and criticised those who were complaining: There were worries that the headliners would pull out before the show, after cancelling a concert in Dublin a few days before the festival. The band were "extremely sorry" for having to cancel their show at Marlay Park, Dublin, after they revealed lead singer Alex Turner was "suffering from acute laryngitis" and "has been ordered to rest." King Charles meeting Gemma Collins is the crossover we all needed
Gemma Collins met King Charles III and Queen Camilla and it was obviously iconic. The Towie star met the Royals as she attended the Animal Ball on Wednesday, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Elephant Family conservation charity. Camilla complimented Gemma on her headwear, which was a headband with a large cherry and a caterpillar on top. Gemma said: "I'm just so happy to be here and share this evening with you." The star then turned to the King and gave him the title "King of the planet" as she praised him for his conservation work. "Please keep getting that message out there, it means so much." @dailymailroyals @Gemma Collins gives King Charles a pep talk! ? ? #gemmacollins #kingcharles #theroyals #fyp #royals #britishhumour #royalmeme Later taking her seat inside the event, Gemma was asked about her Royal meeting and she confessed that she had invited King Charles and Queen Camilla on a safari, The Daily Mail reports. She reportedly said: "I'm looking to make a documentary to make the youngsters aware, and I really hope they get involved. "Me and King Charles and Camilla on safari, it would be amazing. I did ask him about it, I said 'would you be up for it?'" Gemma told how King Charles had simply chuckled in response to her question, which she was taking "as a yes". Gemma added: "In this day, there should not be anyone who shows cruelty to another living being, and this is why Charles and Camilla are close to my heart and I'm just so fascinated with all the good work they do with conservation." The Elephant Family is a conservation charity set up in 2003 by Camilla’s late brother Mark Shand, and the anniversary event featured appearances from famous faces including Succession's Matthew Macfadyen, shoe designer Christian Louboutin, and Queen guitarist Sir Brian May. WWE fan sparks debate after asking John Cena to yell catchphrase in a restaurant
WWE star John Cena has caused a debate on TikTok after refusing to say his famous catchphrase for a fan. In the viral footage posted to the platform, the star was captured sitting in a restaurant while catching up with a friend. The TikToker interrupts the pair by asking him to say something for the camera. "Say again?" Cena asked the fan, to which he responded: "Can you [say], 'You can’t see me?'" The WWE legend replied: "How about I enjoy some time with my friends?" His response led the fan to apologise and end the video. The TikTok clip has since racked up almost half a million views and hundreds more polarised comments. "All dude had to say was 'Hi John Cena, I'm a big fan, can I take a picture with you?' from a distance – Cena would have probably said yes," one person wrote. Another added: "People mad at him for having boundaries, but dude didn't do anything either, just saying what's up." Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter @alex99rocks my friend met john cena and decided to be a cornball? @Arya A third also suggested a better approach, commenting: "He’s rich and all but I would rather be like 'hey I’m a huge fan, can I buy you guys another round of drinks?' and hope something good happens after." Meanwhile, others joked that the fan should have toyed with his famed catchphrase 'You can't see me'. "Just go up to his friends and say I’m sorry that you're sitting alone," one TikToker commented, while another humoured: "He said you CAN'T see me." Since his 2002 debut, Cena has not only made an impression in the ring but also for his work for the Make-A-Wish foundation, where he's broken records for the amount of wishes granted. Last year, the Guinness Book of World Records recognised his efforts after making 650 wishes come true. He has also made huge strides as an actor appearing in The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, Trainwrecked and Fast 9. Have your say in our news democracy. Brittany Mahomes' SKIMS collaboration has everyone talking about Taylor Swift
Patrick and Brittany Mahomes and their two children — son Patrick "Bronze" Lavon and daughter Sterling Skye are the faces of SKIMS annual Christmas pyjama campaign but the collaboration has sparked controversy amongst Taylor Swift fans. The campaign features the family in matching red and black pajamas with the theme of the launch being "family togetherness and holiday fun." While this is all well-meaning and a spot of festive cheer many have pointed out a potential conflict in Mahomes' future. SKIMS, which you might already know is owned by Kim Kardashian. Meanwhile, Mahomes has recently become besties with Taylor Swift, who is currently dating Patrick Mahomes' Kansas City Chiefs teammate Travis Kelce. What does all this mean? Well, let's go back to 2016 when Kardashian's ex-husband Kanye West released his song 'Famous' which contained a diss aimed at Swift. The 'Anti-Hero' singer was said to be unhappy with the lyrics but the rapped claimed that she approved them prior to the release only for her to deny it. Kardashian then went ahead and released a Snapchat video where Swift apparently agreed to the lyrics. The feud has gone on for years but most of the disagreement appears to now be between Swift and West with her and Kardashian appearing to now be on better terms. This though hasn't stopped speculating that there might be a potential awkward conflict on the horizon for Mahomes and Swift. Still, this is probably just fans reading a bit too much into a humble pyjama advert. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy.
