Jason Aldean speaks out after 'racist' song becomes smash hit
American singer Jason Aldean has spoken out to thank his fans after his “racist” song Try That In A Small Town becomes a hit. The country singer’s track saw a 999 per cent increase in streams after it began trending last week for its content following the release of the accompanying music video. The tune also made it to number 2 on the Billboard Chart. The lyrics of the song have been accused, by some, of having violent and racist undertones. The chorus says: “Try that in a small town, see how far you make it down the road. Round here we take care of our own. “You cross that line it won't take long for you to find out, I recommend you don't try that in a small town.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter On Twitter, Aldean shared a montage clip featuring imagery taken behind the scenes of his tour. In one clip, Aldean addressed the crowd referencing the controversy around the song. “So, somebody asked me, ‘Hey man, do you think you’re going to play this song tonight?’. The answer was simple. The people have spoken and you guys spoke very, very loudly this week.” Aldean denied that the track has any racial undertones, taking to social media last week to write: “In the past 24 hours I have been accused of releasing a pro-lynching song (a song that has been out since May) and was subject to the comparison that I (direct quote) was not too pleased with the nationwide BLM protests. “These references are not only meritless, but dangerous.” The music video for the song features imagery of riots and protests and was pulled from the air by television network Country Music Television (CMT) in the US three days after it was first shown. A round-up of all the Taylor's Version songs teased on Prime Video
Taylor Swift is currently in the middle of releasing the re-recorded versions of her six albums, and there have been various ways she has teased upcoming releases. One example is dropping snippets in Prime Video shows and trailers such as The Summer I Turned Pretty and most recently Wilderness. While 1989 (Taylor's Version) is set to be released on October 27, there has been a release date yet for the remaining re-records - reputation (Taylor's Version) and Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version). Here is a list of the re-recorded songs that have been teased on Prime Video shows: 'This Love' - from 1989 (Taylor's Version) Show - The Summer I Turned Pretty (season one) Ahead of the 1989 (Taylor's Version) release date announcement, Swift had already dropped two tracks from the 2014 album and this included the song 'This Love'. The first chance fans could listen to the re-record was in the first season trailer of The Summer I Turned Pretty and it was also used in the show too. In an Instagram post announcing the news last year on May 6, Swift wrote: "Thank you @jennyhan for debuting my version of This Love in the trailer for @thesummeriturnedpretty!! "I’ve always been so proud of this song and I’m very ??? about this turn of events - This Love (Taylor’s Version) comes out tonight at m i d n i g h t!" 'Back To December' - from Speak Now (Taylor's Version) Show - The Summer I Turned Pretty (season two) Swifties were overjoyed when the re-recorded version of 'Back to December' - a fan favourite from Speak Now (Taylor's Version) was used in the season two trailer of The Summer I Turned Pretty. "Go back to summer. watch the official trailer for season 2 of the summer i turned pretty, featuring “back to december (taylor’s version)” by @taylorswift," the show's official Instagram announced in June. This came ahead of Speak Now (Taylor's Version) being released on July 7 this year. 'Delicate' - from reputation (Taylor's Version) Show - The Summer I Turned Pretty (season two) There wasn't just one Swift track that was teased, there were two with the second being 'Delicate' from reputation (Taylor's Version) which was used in the pool scene with Belly (Lola Tung) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalengo). This was the first indication to Swifties that a song from reputation had been re-recorded - however this is yet to be released. @jennyhan Is it too soon to do this yet? (Taylor’s version) #thesummeriturnedpretty #behindthescenes #lolatung #gavincasalegno 'Look What You Made Me Do' from reputation (Taylor's Version) Show - Wilderness The re-recorded version of the singer's first single from her 2017 album reputation can be heard in the trailer for Prime Video U.K.’s Wilderness. Starring Jenna Coleman, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ashley Benson and Eric Balfour, the thriller series is set to be released on September 15 on the streaming service platform. Like 'Delicate', this version has not yet been released and there has been no date announced yet at the time of writing. @primevideouk Another day another drama, but all she thinks about is karma…. Your first look at #Wilderness, featuring “Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version)” by @Taylor Swift coming to Prime Video on the 15th September ? With four songs teased via Prime Video, Swifties will be sure to listen out for any other possible re-recording clip in the future. Tom Grennan steps in to help Argentinian Coventry fan reach Wembley dream
Tom Grennan has helped a Coventry fan from Argentina by covering his expenses and allowing him to watch his team's Championship play-off final next weekend. The singer-songwriter made the offer to Lauti, a passionate Coventry supporter who planned to sell his car in order to be able to fly over to watch the crucial match live. Speaking to BBC Sport Coventry & Warwickshire, Lauti described his feelings about the upcoming play-off match against Luton Town on May 27, which could result on the side returning to the Premier League for the first time in 22 years if they win the game. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter "What happened is just unbelievable. I have no words to describe what I am feeling now," the Argentine said. "When I started to support Coventry we were playing at Wembley too, but we were playing against Exeter in League Two so I never expected this. He added: "This is more than a dream come true. I am selling my car. I think my girl is not happy because I am selling it to go to Wembley. "We are one game away from our dream, from playing again in the Premier League so vamos Sky Blues." Soon, the video caught the attention of Grennan who tweeted out his generous offer (and saved Lauti from selling his car) as the singer noted he will not be able to attend the match because he's got to perform at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend. "I WILL PAY FOR THIS LAD!!!! I can’t go to the final as I’m performing at BBCR1 weekend in Dundee," Grennan wrote. "Devastated to miss the game, but instead I’ll pay for this lad to come over for the game. Does he have a ticket? Someone let me know." In a follow-up tweet, Grennan replied to another Coventry fan who set up a GoFundMe page for Lauti and was keen to send the money over. Grennan proved to be a man of his word as the footy fan shared an image of the £2,000 transaction that the singer donated, calling him an "absolute legend." Previously, Grennan trained to be a professional footballer as a youngster and was on the books at Luton (who Coventry are up against in the play-offs) and also took part in Soccer Aid last year.
