AUSTIN, TEXAS: Joe Rogan was recently exposed to the darker side of the boxing world during an episode of 'The Joe Rogan Experience' by his guest Bernard Hopkins.
Joe Rogan is well-versed in all aspects of combat sports and frequently hosts guests who are more than willing to provide him with additional insights.
Hopkins had a successful boxing career that lasted for more than three decades. Being a veteran, he has witnessed many sinister events occur outside of the ring.
The former world champion boxer is now speaking out about the seedy back alleys of an uncontrolled industry.
Joe Rogan believes there’s shenanigans in boxing
In one of his most recent episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience, Joe Rogan had a conversation with the retired boxer Bernard Hopkins.
Hopkins initiated the conversation by recounting his experiences working in the field, where he had dedicated the majority of his life. Hopkins' acknowledgment that he still had much to learn in the world of boxing was intriguing.
He stated, “The business part. It had me thinking in between those moments of climbing the ladder or being a contender, that this is more than just going into the ring and winning and not winning. This was something that I had to learn quickly.”
Rogan heard the truth in Hopkins' comments and said, “There’s a lot of shenanigans in boxing”.
Hopkins commented, "You've got a sport that's unregulated," highlighting the inconsistency in drug testing requirements among different promotions.
With the prevalence of trauma, the sport as a whole begins to lose some of its appeal.
Joe Rogan’s take on modern-day boxers
In another episode of the 'JRE' podcast, Joe Rogan and Mike Tyson discussed Tyson's reputation for being exceedingly vicious and cruel.
Tyson, renowned for his menacing demeanor, often startled reporters during interviews, earning him the moniker "Baddest Man on the Planet" and an infamous reputation. Rogan believes that modern fighters lack the same intimidating demeanor and aura.
Tyson said, “I always say these guys are so much nicer than I was. You know what I mean, these are cool guys, man” and Rogan replied, “Yeah right, there’s no one out there today that’s got that mean vicious persona anymore.”
With the increasing financial opportunities and the abundance of lucrative sponsor deals, the landscape of boxing has evolved.
However, even at the peak of his success, Tyson managed to uphold an elite attitude and mindset, amassing a staggering wealth of over $400 million.
