NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: ‘Sex and the City’, HBO's most beloved and iconic TV series of all time, still has millions of fans around the world. The show has again blended its wit, fashion, friendship, and love with a spinoff titled ‘And Just Like That'. ‘Sex and the City’ recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, and we can't get enough of it! Fans have gone nuts with the comeback of Carrie Bradshaw after Season 1 of ‘And Just Like That’ was a super hit. With Season 2 of ‘And Just Like That’ premiering in June, and the comeback of Aidan Shaw (John Corbett), fans are wondering if another iconic character from the biggest show will make a comeback in the spinoff series.
Recently, the sequel series reportedly confirmed the comeback of Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), the bold and independent character from the OG series. Kim is all set to appear as the confident Samantha in ‘And Just Like That’ Season 2 after a years-long feud with ex-co-star Sarah Jessica Parker. This exciting news broke when a spokesperson for the streaming network confirmed the news with the New York Post. According to an insider, she made a secret cameo toward the end of the upcoming second season, and her name was actually left off the call sheet to avoid suspicion.
Will Kim Cattrall star in ‘And Just Like That’?
‘Sex and the City’ and ‘And Just Like That’ fans were crushed after the announcement that Kim Cattrall would not reprise her role from the former series in the spinoff. At the time, she was working on a new role for ‘How I Met Your Mother' reboot titled ‘How I Met Your Father’. When asked, she revealed during a podcast that she isn’t interested in playing the role of Samantha Jones again. “I wouldn’t be any good doing something that I really didn’t want to do,” the actress said
Although she didn’t. appear in the first season of the sequel series which apparently came as a shock to fans, her reprising role in the Season 2 finale is more confusing. The confirmation about her comeback was first reported by Variety, stating that she’s making a return only for one scene. Moreover, sources revealed that she shot her dialogue on March 22 in New York City and didn’t speak to co-stars including Sarah Jessica Parker and Michael Patrick King. As per reports, her character has a phone conversation with Carrie Bradshaw, played by Parker.
Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall's public feud
In 2018, Parker admitted during an episode of ‘Watch What Happens Live’ that she was “heartbroken” after Kim said she was never friends with her co-stars. Parker exclaimed with disappointment, "We had this experience and it was amazing, and nothing will ever be like it. We had a connection with an audience, and we had a connection with the city and with this crew, and we got to tell these crazy stories with each other. So I don’t want to mess with that. I couldn’t imagine anyone else playing that part. So there was no fight; it was completely fabricated, because I actually never responded. And I won’t, because she needed to say what she needed to say, and that is her privilege.”
Moreover, in 2017, Kim once claimed her relationship with Parker had become "toxic". She said, “Nobody ever picks up the phone and tries to contact you and say, ‘How you doing?’ That would have been the way to handle it.” She continued to explain, "This is, it feels like, a toxic relationship. This is really where I take to task the people from 'Sex and the City’ and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker. I really think she could’ve been nicer. I don’t know what her issue is.”
Presently, there are no official comments from Parker or Cattrall on Samantha’s return.
