Matty Healy announces The 1975's 'indefinite hiatus', disappointed fans say 'bro's not the same since Taylor'

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA: English pop rock band The 1975's frontman Matty Healy announced that the band would take an "indefinite hiatus" following their ongoing tour during their Golden 1 Center set in Sacramento, California on Tuesday, September 26.

According to a fan video shared on Twitter, he stated "After this tour, we will be going on an indefinite hiatus of shows, so it’s wonderful to have you guys with us tonight."

"We always love … playing for you guys whenever we have the chance. It’s wonderful you’re all here," Healy added.

Healy announced the end of the performance on behalf of the band, which consists of drummer and primary producer George Daniel, bassist Ross MacDonald, and lead guitarist Adam Hann.

The "controversial" performer and his colleagues made the revelation as the North American edition of their 'Still... At Their Very Best Tour' got underway.

However, the band's manager, Jamie Oborne, had already hinted at the break while promoting their August concert appearances in Europe, per Page Six.

The 1975's North American segment of their tour will come to an end on November 15 in Seattle. The group will then continue on to the UK in February before taking a final bow on March 24 in North Holland.

Fans link Matty Healy's 'indefinite hiatus' announcement to Taylor Swift split

Fans were shocked by Healy's shocking announcement, and many expressed their dismay on social media while making connection with Taylor Swift split.

One fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "Bro's not the same since taylor"

"This is not Tayvoodoo. This hiatus is due to the band being tired of Matty Healy's years of antics and it literally costing the band. This was brewing well before he publicly dated Taylor," another X user claimed.

A third X user snarked, "Taylor Swift was too good for you The 1975 Plan ‘Indefinite Hiatus’ Following Tour – Rolling Stone"

Another fan exclaimed, "You’re in your famous era, Erinn! But I wish it was a different subject matter. “indefinite hiatus”

"RIP 1975: 1975-2023. They had a swift run," quipped another fan.

Others shared jokes and memes making fun of Healy's 'indefinite hiatus' announcement.

Why is The 1975 going on a hiatus?

The 1975 has had a busy year, especially for its lead singer, who briefly dated Taylor Swift before their breakup in June.

Their relationship began after ET exclusively revealed that Swift ended her six-year relationship with British actor Joe Alwyn in April.

Following the revelation of the break, neither The 1975 nor their lead singer have made any official statements.

However, on May 22, 2023, Healy's mother, Denise Welch, said in a recent interview with OK! magazine that her son is "absolutely exhausted," per Sportskeeda.

The 1975's first studio album, 'The 1975,' released in September 2013, is their most famous composition. The platinum-certified album topped the charts in the UK and Scotland, respectively.

Before a series of shows that will take The 1975 all over the country through December, the alt-rock band is scheduled to play in San Jose and San Diego this week. The band's native UK and Europe are the next stops on the tour, which wraps up in March 2024.
