1. Sexual assault allegations
In a conversation between Pokimane and popular Valorant broadcaster Connor aka PROD in December 2022, Pokimane stated that things get "a little bit different" after broadcasting for a while. She went on to say that the recent debate surrounding the claims of sexual assault "felt so tainted."
“You want to know what's sad? Nowadays it's kind of scary to be like, 'Hey! I think this person is kind of cool! Nice guy!' Because like, four years later, you find out that they're sexual predators, or something. It just feels so tainted,” she said.
2. Hate spam
Another incident arose when JiDionPremium, a fellow Twitch streamer, and YouTuber, criticized Pokimane. The incident began at the beginning of 2022 when JiDion's fans spammed "L + Ratio" into Pokimane's chat room. Pokimane was defeated by the argument and had to halt her stream.
When Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins and his wife Jessica Blevins threatened to sue Pokimane for slander, the drama continued. Ninja volunteered to assist JiDion while he was live-streaming by speaking with Twitch and shortening his ban period. Pokimane took exception to this and made the decision to criticize Ninja for aiding JiDion.
3. Overusing AAVE language
Twitter users were outraged in August 2021 over Pokimane's Twitch Video on Demand (VOD) titles where she used specific words. People of color in the United States of America speak a dialect known as AAVE or African American Vernacular English.
People were outraged by the usage of this slang in her VOD, which has now been removed. Later, she expressed regret and said she didn't mean to make fun of or abuse AAVE language.
4. Misogynistic joke
Pokimane gained notoriety in 2021 after a ten-second video of her making the remark that ‘women belong in the kitchen’ went viral. Despite the fact that she meant this as a joke, she faced a lot of criticism and was accused of being sexist.
She clarified and apologized for the remarks she made by stating that it was a ‘harmless joke’ due to the footage being chopped short and taken out of context.
5. Clout chaser
In 2020, the dispute occurred. Pokimane made an attempt to enter the VTuber universe. She received criticism from the majority of her supporters and viewers as a result of her choice. Pokimane chose to return after taking a break after the LeafyIsHere fiasco by stating that she would begin live streaming as a VTuber.
Many Twitter users attacked this, claiming Pokimane was broke and wanted to join the VTubers' craze. Others, on the other hand, criticized her appearance, claiming that she sought to cover up her physical flaws.
