Matthew Perry's special request he made for the final episode of Friends has resurfaced following the sad news of his death. In his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, released last year, the late actor revealed how he wanted to close out the show by saying the final line. "No one else will care about this except me,” Perry wrote. “So may I please have the last line?” he asked the producer. The finale of the hugely popular sitcom came in 2004 after 10 seasons, and the final scene saw Chandler and Monica (played by Perry and Courteney Cox) bid an emotional farewell to their empty purple apartment as they were joined by Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), Joey (Matt LeBlanc), Ross (David Schwimmer). Before Chandler and Monica leave the city for the suburbs to start family life with their newborn twins, Rachel suggests the group grab a final cup of coffee. That's when Chandler's sarcastic humour shines through one last time to end the show on a light-hearted note. “Sure,” Chandler replied. “Where?” Of course, fans of the show know exactly where - the group's local coffee shop Central Perk which had been one of the iconic backdrops of the series. “I got to bring the curtain down on Friends,” Perry wrote. “I love the look on Schwimmer’s face as I deliver that line — it’s the perfect mixture of affection and amusement, exactly what the show Friends had always given to the world.” Upon news of Perry being declared dead on October 28, aged 54, many Friends fans shared how Perry made this last line request. One person wrote: "It is incredibly bittersweet that Chandler had the last line in the final episode of Friends. Gonna miss Matthew Perry a lot." "Matthew Perry delivered the final line in Friends. And made one word into a final laugh. A talented man. RIP," another person said. Someone else added: "One of my favorite jokes in the show and the ultimate send-off." "This was the perfect last words on Friends,” a fourth person commented. “Inside joke was that the Central Perk set had already been taken down. The cast of Friends released a statement, following the tragic news of Perry's death. "We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just castmates. We are a family,” it read. "There is so much to say, but right now we're going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. In time we will say more, as and when we are able. "For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty's family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world". Matthew Perry was ready to fight for his most iconic character’s reputation, a fellow ‘Friends’ actor has revealed. Lisa Cash, 54, who was an extra in the series, opened up about how her role in the show was changed and trimmed down thanks to Perry’s intervention – but she thinks it was the right decision. Speaking to TMZ, Cash explained that Chandler Bing (played by Perry) was supposed to cheat on his wife Monica Geller (Courteney Cox) during a Season 5 episode titled ‘The One in Vegas: Part 1’. Cash was hired to play a hotel worker who brings room service to Chandler’s room after he has a major fight with Monica, and the two were supposed to have a secret tryst. “Basically, the scene was Chandler and Monica were arguing In Vegas about Monica having lunch with Richard (Monica’s ex) and initially in our script, Chandler goes up to the hotel room, orders room service and I bring it up as a hotel worker,” the 54-year-old recounted. “And we end up talking and laughing and connecting and… Chandler ends up cheating on Monica with my character.” However, Perry knew his audience too well, and insisted that ‘Friends’ fanatics would be up in arms if the storyline were to go ahead. “We had rehearsed it and everything and then the day before we were shooting it in front of a live audience, I was told that Chandler went to the writers and said the fans will never forgive him for cheating on Monica.” She then conceded: “He was probably right. Mourners gathered at the Forest Lawn cemetery in the Hollywood Hills neighbourhood, less than a mile from the Warner Brothers studio where ‘Friends’ was filmed. The cause and manner of Perry's death are to be determined by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office, upon completion of an autopsy with toxicology tests. His tragic passing came just one year after the publication of his memoir, ‘Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,’ which chronicled his decades-long struggle with addiction to prescription painkillers and alcohol. At the time, Perry said he had been sober for about 18 months. Also on Friday, a foundation in Perry's name was launched to support people struggling with addiction. The Matthew Perry Foundation "will honour his legacy and be guided by his own words and experiences and driven by his passion for making a difference in as many lives as possible," according its website. The site leads with a quote from Perry, saying: "When I die, I don't want 'Friends' to be the first thing that's mentioned - I want helping others to be the first thing that's mentioned." Friends fans have been left heartbroken after a clip has re-emerged of Matthew Perry admitting he had a crush on co-star Jennifer Aniston. The clip resurfaced following the death of the actor, and supporters have been left saddened that it'll never become a reality. “The time I realised I had a crush on Jennifer Aniston was way before the show started", he said at the time, citing that an 'indifference' forced him to get over it. "When I’m, like, thirteen, I want to walk dogs, to make money to buy art supplies, because everything around here is so expensive. So a rapper, a basketball player, and I’m going to make artwork that I sell." However, she clearly has an interest in business too and noted how she wants to take over her parent's businesses when she's older.
