LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: During his appearance on ‘The View’ on Monday, Chris Evans was bombarded with questions about the recent Variety expose that made a series of shocking revelations, including that Marvel has been holding talks to reunite the original cast for a new Avengers movie, possibly for ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’.
Having already wrapped up his role as Captain America in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ along with Robert Downey Jr and Scarlett Johansson, Evans has previously expressed his reluctance to reprise his role.
He has also emphasized that Anthony Mackie’s Falcon has taken over as the new Captain America.
However, during this appearance, Evans deflected the latest round of Marvel-related queries with the help of his furry companion, Dodger.
On the show, Evans talked about his upcoming holiday movie, 'Red One,' his experience filming with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, and shared the heartwarming story of how he rescued Dodger.
What did Chris Evans reveal when asked about his potential return to the MCU?
Sara Haines, co-host of the talk show opened the can of worms by saying, “But Chris, you played Steve Rogers. Aka. Captain America, for nine years. He handed his shield over in Avengers Endgame in 2019.”
Then she asked, “Now, Variety reported there have been talks for Marvel to bring back all of the original Avengers for a new movie. Is there anything to be said about it or anything you'd be allowed to say without being killed? Could we potentially see you back for something like that?”
Evans replied, “I always see those reports, too, and it's news to me, you know? I think every couple of months, someone says, they're getting Downey and Hemsworth and Scarlett and everyone's coming.”
Then he turned the camera to his dog Dodger who was standing by him and said, “This guy -- this guy really wants some attention. He is trying so hard.”
“No one's spoken to me about it. And, look, I would never say never, but I'm very protective. It's a very precious role to me, so it would have to be just right,” Evans shared.
Sara then asked him, “But after working in the Marvel world for so many years, are there things about it that you miss?”
Evans explained, “I mean, it's just intrinsically cool to be a superhero. It's very fun to kind of play, make-believe and live out your childhood dreams.”
The 42-year-old actor continued, “But the friendships are so fantastic. It's not just the cast, which, some of my best friends in the world, but the crew. You know these people so well, and you get to see them every six, eight months or so.”
Evans then moved his camera again to reveal Dodger by his side, trying to get his attention once more.
“It’s only when I start Zooms!” Evans said. “He doesn’t care! Until I start talking to the computer screen, then he needs to be the center of attention.”
