PALM COAST, FLORIDA: 'Extreme Makeover' star Ty Pennington recently turned 59. Despite the day bringing in a happy occasion, Ty revealed that he will not celebrate his birthday because of the "unequivocally heart-shattering" times that he finds himself in.
The HGTV star took to his Instagram to share his thoughts.
In a recent post, Ty wrote, "Today I turn 59… but there will be no celebration. These last two weeks have been unequivocally heart-shattering. I can only think of all the innocent souls we’ve lost who will never see another birthday. My only wish this year is for peace."
Ty has a background in fine arts and went to art school to pursue his dream of studying art and design.
He rose to fame after appearing on the hit TLC show 'Trading Spaces'. Following his stint on the show, he moved on to feature as the host of ABC's 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition'.

Earlier this year, Ty initially suffered from a sore throat which soon snowballed into him having further complications including breathing trouble.
In between attending scheduled events, he was hospitalized after doctors diagnosed a throat abscess that was blocking his air pipe, threatening his ability to breathe.
Pennington is said to have been fortunate to have treated the anomaly early on, which could otherwise have transformed into a serious issue affecting his lungs in case it ruptured inside his throat and wind-pipe.

Ty was once featured on the cover of a J Crew catalog during the height of his modeling career.
In an Instagram post from January, he shared his own take on the 30-year challenge, posting two photos featuring him in the same attire, but three decades apart.
In the photos, Ty flaunts a swimming trunk as he sits bare with a razor in his hand and foam on his face. He revealed that this photo was one of the highlights of his short career as a male model.
Unfortunately, Ty got into a car accident soon after and was subsequently unable to kickstart his modeling career due to the injuries he suffered.

In 2019, Ty released his book titled 'Life to the Extreme' in which he opened up about his struggles with ADHD early on in his childhood.
He reportedly confessed that he found it difficult to concentrate as a child during his school days and could only focus on building things.
