Tory MPs have been roasted with savage Barbie bus stop and tube posters
Barbiemania is unstoppable. Merch is flying, people won't stop playing the soundtrack, and the Greta Gerwig film has been a huge box office hit. But now it has gone one step further and transcended pop culture to worm its way into the political realm - having influenced anti-Tory protesters, who have cast MPs as characters in the hit film and put posters of them around London bus stops and tubes. The posters show big name ministers and MPs Suella Braverman, Rishi Sunak, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Robert Jenrick, Lee Anderson and Priti Patel, Kemi Badenoch, Liz Truss, Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and Dominic Raab and doesn't cast them in a favourable light. Instead, they show quotes from the politicians or short bios about their failures accompanied with the hashtag "#ThisBarbieIsAC*nt". Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Liz Truss's poster, for instance, claims she is "as useful as a condom". It adds: "Liz Truss holds the record for the shortest time served as PM. She crashed the economy trying to make her pals richer. While we're struggling to buy food and pay our bills, she's making tens and thousands as a public speaker. "#thelettucewoulddoabetterjob". Another poster calls another former PM, Johnson a "f**king eejit". Pictures of the bus posters were uploaded to Twitter by the campaign group Lesbians and Gays Support the Migrants. The group, who posted the images on Twitter on the same day that Barbie was released in cinemas, wrote: “This week not only marks the cinematic event of the summer, but the Illegal Immigration Bill also passed a few days ago and it looks as though someone has been doing some alternative promo.” They added: “This government’s treatment of migrants and asylum seekers is an outrage that violates human rights and fails to protect those fleeing from persecution and conflict. It will make life even more dangerous for people on the move.” As for the tube posters, they wrote: "We may not all be barbie girls, but we do live in this Tory world. The UK government targets and scapegoats asylum seekers, migrants and trans people, and fabricates fear to distract us all from their farcical failure to serve the people." They referenced Sunak's commitment to expand North Sea drilling today, which is controversial because of climate change, adding: "While Shell announces annual profits almost 10X their last, around one in five (20 percent) of our population live in poverty. Now just this morning the Tories have issued 100 new oil and gas licences. Make it make sense. "We’re being rinsed, financially and politically, now and for generations to come. No mojo dojo case house vibes please, we’ve had Kenough". But it looks like the poster campaign might be short-lived. When the bus stop posters appeared, Transport for London (TfL) spokeswoman told the Evening Standard: “These offensive adverts are not authorised by TfL or our advertising partner JCDecaux. “We have instructed our contractors to remove any of these posters found on our network immediately.” Have your say in our news democracy. Candace Owens says that Lena the Plug is in 'slave relationship' with Adam 22
Candace Owens says that Lena the Plug is in 'slave relationship' with Adam 22
Candace Owens has joined the throng of critics of Adam22’s unorthodox marriage to Lena the Plug, branding their relationship one of “master and slave”. The right-wing commentator sat down for a three-hour discussion with Andrew Tate when they turned their attention to the now-notorious couple. For those who haven’t been following the saga, podcasters Adam22 (real name Adam Grandmaison) and Lena (real name Lena Nersesian) were thrust to viral stardom, after she filmed a sex scene with porn star Jason Luv. The X-rated encounter spawned a whole number of follow-up interviews, fall-outs, and conversations, including one with the king of toxic masculinity himself: Tate. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The self-styled “Top G” was introduced to the couple during a live episode of YouTuber Adin Ross’s eponymous show earlier this month. During their discussion, Ross asked the former kickboxer for his thoughts on the Lena-Luv liaison and Adam’s part in the whole thing. “All I can say is that I wouldn't personally do that, that's not something I would allow my woman to do,” he replied. After a lengthy debate about it all, Adam “extended an invite” to Tate, saying that if he were “ever interested in doing his first ever double-penetration scene”, he and Lena might be up for it. However, he then checked this with his wife and asked: “Would he be a suitable candidate?”, to which Lena replied: “No.” Adin Ross Introduces Adam22 & Lena The Plug To ANDREW TATE www.youtube.com Owens seized on the bizarre live-streamed meeting during her interview with Tate, condemning Adam’s treatment of his other half as “horrific”. “Don't allow them to delude you to believing that this is femininity,” the presenter fumed. “It's not femininity, Lena, to have your husband offer your body to another man on camera. That's the poisoning. “They teach women that this is sexual freedom, that this is sexual liberation,” she continued. “I looked at that and I saw a slave relationship – I saw a master offering his slave to another person because he was just so, ‘I just love Andrew Tate, would you like to sleep with my wife? I would be OK with that’. “That is horrific. That is not femininity. That is not masculinity.” Nodding, Tate chimed in: “I absolutely agree with you on that point. You're totally right there, and I think that's probably one of the most misogynistic things that have happened on the internet in recent times.” He went on to say that he found Adam’s behaviour “pretty disgusting”, pointing out: “He didn't ask her, he offered her.” Bigging up his own response to the situation, he said: “I felt sorry for her so I was very measured in my conversation with them. “I could tell she was nervous, she was swinging on the chair back and forth. She didn't want to be there, she felt extremely nervous and I think that only a coward would berate a very nervous, very scared woman.” He then laughed: “I think she expected me to go at her hard, maybe I'm getting soft in my old age." However, let there be no misunderstanding here: Tate is no champion of women’s rights and values. During their ‘Adin Live’ meeting, the influencer – who is currently under house arrest after being charged with human trafficking and rape – explained why he “wouldn’t let his woman” sleep with another man. “The reason I wouldn't ever do it is because I believe that a man and a woman have a connection between them, and I think that connection is solidified by sexual exclusivity from the female’s part,” he said. That’s right, “from the female’s part”. Still, Adam doesn’t seem phased by Tate’s criticism nor by Owens’s fierce criticism. Indeed, he even shared her slavery allusion on X (formerly Twitter) via his ‘No Jumper’ podcast account. All we can say is, none of this inspires confidence in the future of respect and equality. Lana Del Rey prophecy explained after she predicts the downfall of female singers in 2020
Lana Del Rey prophecy explained after she predicts the downfall of female singers in 2020
Fans are calling Lana del Rey a "prophet" after Doja Cat, Ariana Grande, Camila Cabello, and Cardi B have all found themselves in controversy in recent weeks. Back in 2020, the 'Video Games' singer posted to Instagram a letter titled 'question for the culture' where she expressed resentment towards the music industry's standards for women saying there was no place for her and her music in the industry. Whilst making her point she mentioned the artists Doja Cat, Ariana Grande, Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Kehlani, Nicki Minaj and Beyonce, saying they get praised for writing songs about "being sexy, wearing no clothes, f***ing, cheating etc" whilst del Ray gets accused of "glamorising abuse" in her songs. Her post was widely criticised at the time, accusing the singer of being racist for bringing down other female artists, the majority of them being women of colour. But over two years later, the 38-year-old is back in conversations for her post as her fans claim she's a "prophet" after many of the musicians she mentioned in 2020 have found themselves in the middle of controversy. Doja Cat has faced backlash for being rude to fans, as well as dating a Twitch streamer who has had allegations of harassment. Ariana Grande has been accused of cheating on her husband, who had recently welcomed a baby with his wife. Cardi B also was in the middle of a debate after she threw her microphone at a fan who threw a drink at her whilst she was performing. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Del Ray's apparent ability to predict the downfall of these artists has many shocked at the accuracy: Kehlani, Nicki Minaj, and Beyoncé are the three artists seemingly left on the list, so only time will tell if Del Ray truly is a prophet. Andrew Tate tried to troll Amanda Holden and everyone pointed out the hypocrisy
Controversial influencer Andrew Tate attempted to troll Amanda Holden but everyone pointed out his hypocrisy. The bizarre crossover unfolded after Holden posted a photo of herself wearing a black bikini and standing under an outdoor shower. Holden shared the image on Twitter along with the caption: “Good morning.” Tate, who is currently charged with rape, human trafficking, and forming an organised crime group to sexually exploit women, responded to her tweet suggesting she is somehow unqualified to post content like that. He wrote: “You are a wife and a mother and you’re far past a teenager. There is no need for this post.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter But it wasn’t long before people pointed out Tate’s hypocrisy, as he regularly posts shirtless pictures, and criticised his misogynistic comment. One person commented: “This take would've been fine if it wasn't for your hypocrisy, considering you're a bald 40-year-old charged for human trafficking and rape, while still posting shirtless pics of yourself on social media, touch some grass, Tate.” Another said: “You’re a 36 yr old Dad that eats his tea topless with his mates whilst under house arrest on charges of rape, human trafficking & forming an organised crime group to sexually exploit women, I’m thinking you’re deffo not in the best position to preach on righteousness here fella!” Tate is currently under house arrest in Romania where he faces serious charges of sexual exploitation along with his brother Tristan and two other associates. Gary Lineker 'very honoured' to have been named on 2023 Woke List
Gary Lineker 'very honoured' to have been named on 2023 Woke List
Gary Lineker has had the last laugh after he was mocked by being included in a newspaper 'woke list'. The former England striker and BBC Match of the Day presenter has reacted after he was included on the Mail on Sunday's 'Woke List 2023' which highlighted celebrities who "are most high-profile in their awakedness to perceived injustices in society - but who have also been accused of having an exaggerated fixation with such issues". Lineker was included on the list after he compared the government's asylum policy to Nazi Germany in a tweet in March, which led to his temporary suspension from the BBC. Although the list was mocking him, Lineker said he was "very honoured" to be included in it. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter He tweeted: "Very honoured to be on such a list. Thank you to this normally unpleasant newspaper for showing a degree of kindness." The list also named Emma Watson, Emily Maitlis, the Archbishop of Canterbury and London Mayor Sadiq Khan. In our view, that makes him in pretty good company. Have your say in our news democracy. Click the upvote icon at the top of the page to help raise this article through the indy100 rankings.
