'Planet of the Bass' might be the best parody song you hear this year
Eurodance appears to have taken over the whole of social media as comedian Kyle Gordon’s parody song 'Planet of the Bass' goes viral. The song has led to a rare moment of unification across social media as people revel in the song that takes its inspiration from 90s pop acts like La Bouche and Aqua. Gordon’s video has been viewed over 3.5 million times and text overlaying the clip described it as “Every European Dance Song in the 1990s”. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The parody track itself is called 'Planet of the Bass (feat. DJ Crazy Times & Ms. Biljana Electronica)' and people have been loving it. It features an upbeat tempo, a lot of synths and grammatically incorrect lyrics, mimicking the sound and feel of 'Barbie Girl' by Aqua with a female vocalist and a male vocalist with a deep, raspy voice. Lyrics include: “Danger and dance, clapping the hands, when we out in the space, on the planet of the bass.” @kylegordonisgreat Planet of the Bass (feat. Harris tweeted: “I was at Entertainment Weekly when this would have been a hit, and in 1997 we absolutely would have given these two a full page with a photo shoot and a very short story that tried to get around the fact that they spoke no English.” The band Aqua also commented on the TikTok, writing: “Wait, is this play about us???” Another referenced a lyric that is gaining a lot of traction online, writing: “I want a ‘Women are my favourite guy’ t-shirt.” “Eurovision is calling,” someone else hinted. Terrifying roars from the sky convince people the apocalypse is coming
Just in case the wildfires engulfing the world weren’t enough to worry about, people are convinced a full-on apocalypse is just around the corner. The doomsday prediction comes thanks to unsettling footage that has emerged from Mexico. In the video, an Earth-shattering roar can be heard emanating from the sky which is heavy with ominous, thick grey clouds. Alarms can be heard ringing in the background, along with the frantic barks of dogs and screeching of birds, as the roar gives way to echoing trumpet-like calls. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The clip was shared by TikToker The Paranormal Chic, who introduced it by saying: “The local news station claimed they were atmospheric sounds as a way of explanation, but the interesting part about this video are (sic) the dogs, the animals – their response to what they're hearing, and potentially the vibrations.” @the_paranormal_chic The trumpets are back and this time recorded in Mexico! #trumphets #skysounds #skytrumpets #mexico #unexplained #theparanormalchic #paranormal #haarp #cern #conspiracytiktok #conspirancytheory #conspiracion #fyp Her vid racked up more than 265,000 views and 24,000 likes in six days, as commentators attempted to solve the mystery behind the phenomenon. “In 2012, I heard the most unexplainable noise in Memphis. It scared the f (sic) out of me. Never have been able to source it. This is close, but not quite,” one wrote. “I can’t help but wonder if aliens live among us on earth, and that’s the evacuation order,” said another. Others likened the roaring sound to “Godzilla” or predicted simply: “The end is near.” A number referred to the Bible’s Book of Revelation, which states that seven trumpets will be sounded by seven angels during God’s seven years of judgement – each one unleashing a new catastrophic event. However, one TikToker helpfully pointed out that it couldn’t be one of these celestial horns because “those will be heard around the world”. The Seven Trumpets of Revelation 8-11 www.youtube.com Meanwhile, conspiracy theorists name-checked the once-controversial scientific programme HAARP (High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program), which studies the ionosphere (the boundary between our atmosphere and the vacuum of space). One user wrote that the sounds were “HAARP weather control,” positing that the Alaska-based facility was “using sound frequencies to manipulate clouds and weather formations”. Elsewhere, another user cited the Hollow Earth theory, saying: “Hollow Earth Opening Air Exchange Vortex Tubes carry sound long distances.” And others said the eerie noises hailed the launch of “Project Blue Beam” – a theory that’s been knocking round for nearly 30 years and claims that NASA is attempting to implement a New Age religion and start a New World Order. Still, others were quick to offer more prosaic explanations. One suggested the whole thing was fake, and that the clouds themselves were merely the product of a “Snapchat filter”. And another suggested it was just a “broken tornado siren”. And yet, reports of spine-tingling dins ringing down from the heavens are nothing new. Indeed, there’s a whole website dedicated to “strange sounds in the sky”, which catalogues videos of such occurrences from across the world. Strange Unknown Apocalyptic Noises Heard In The Sky - The Hum Phenomenon www.youtube.com And whilst the precise cause of each weird and whacky clamour is almost impossible to identify, NASA has insisted they’re probably all just examples of background noise. The space agency said in a statement back in 2015: “If humans had radio antennas instead of ears, we would hear a remarkable symphony of strange noises coming from our own planet. “They sound like background music from a flamboyant science fiction film, but this is not science fiction. “Earth’s natural radio emissions are real and, although we’re mostly unaware of them, they are around us all the time.” Have your say in our news democracy. Why MrBeast is suing the company behind his burgers
MrBeast has confirmed that he is suing the company behind his burgers over quality control complaints, while also claiming not to have received payments. The YouTube star partnered with Virtual Dining Concepts back in 2020 to launch a chain of “ghost kitchens” which would act as “virtual restaurants” producing MrBeast Burgers. MrBeast, real name James Donaldson, is now taking legal action after the virtual chain was hit with complaints from users, Bloomberg reports. The lawsuit refers to the negative feedback from customers, reading: “Customers have referred to the burgers as being ‘disgusting’, ‘revolting,’ and ‘inedible'.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter “There are thousands of negative reviews, articles, and comments from people who are deeply disappointed by the fact that MrBeast would put his name on this product.” It continues: “Because the entire business is based on the tremendous global value of the MrBeast brand, it is MrBeast himself, and not Virtual Dining Concepts, who has borne the brunt of the (justified) attacks and criticisms.” The lawsuit also claims that MrBeast has not received payments. “To be clear, while this business has made millions of dollars, MrBeast has not received a dime,” it claims. MrBeast also responded to a user on Twitter who was unhappy with their experience ordering the burger by saying: “It’s impossible to guarantee the quality of orders with virtual restaurants. Hurts my soul to see orders messed up. Sadly I can’t get out of my deal with [MrBeast Burger]”, he said. “Hence why I’m never giving up control of Feastables so I can always do what’s best for my fans. Harsh lesson to learn.” Links to negative reviews and comments from customers are also included in the lawsuit. Have your say in our news democracy. A comprehensive timeline of Ariana Grande's relationships
A comprehensive timeline of Ariana Grande's relationships
Singer Ariana Grande is no stranger to heartbreak after news broke that she and her husband Dalton Gomez have separated after two years of marriage. Since their separation, dating rumours have already begun to swirl, controversially linking Grande with her West End co-star Ethan Slater who also went through a very recent breakup. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Many of Grande’s former flames have been those in the entertainment industry, including comedian Pete Davidson and musician Mac Miller, ranging from flings to engagements. Here’s a timeline of all Grande’s relationship history: Graham Phillips Grande and Phillips, an actor from The Good Wife, met when they were 15 after the pair starred in the Broadway show 13: The Musical together. They dated between 2008 and 2011 and wrote a song together called “Stick Around”. Ariana Grande and Graham Phillips - Stick Around LYRICS www.youtube.com Jai Brooks In August 2012, Grande and Brooks, the star of the Australian YouTube comedy group The Janoskians, began dating but broke it off in October of the following year. Around the breakup, Brooks accused the singer of cheating on him with her next flame, writing on Twitter, “Yes I was cheated on. Yes it does suck,” adding, “Yes I was left for another man”. Grande accused him of lying, responding: “Woke up this morning in complete and utter shock …I guess I shouldn't be so surprised. You said to me if I didn't come back to you, you'd make me look bad to the entire world. She added: “I’m no longer afraid of you or your lies anymore.” The pair briefly got back together in May 2014 but it didn’t last longer than three months. Nathan Sykes According to US Weekly, Nathan Skyes, from the British boyband The Wanted, and Grande began dating in August 2013, while she was reportedly still with Brooks. It came after the two performers recorded the song “Almost Is Never Enough” which featured on the soundtrack of the film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. The relationship was short-lived and a source told the publication they “hardly ever saw each other”. Ariana Grande - Almost Is Never Enough ft. Nathan Sykes www.youtube.com Big Sean In October 2014, Grande confirmed the speculation that she was dating the rapper Big Sean by saying that he was “one of the most amazing men in the whole world”. Big Sean’s late former partner Naya Rivera, who was also engaged to the rapper before their split in April 2014, claimed that she found Grande at their home while she and Big Sean were still dating, in her book Sorry Not Sorry. Grande and Big Sean’s relationship ended in April 2015 eight months after it began. Ricky Alvarez In the summer of 2015, Grande and backup dancer Ricky Alvarez were first linked. It was during their relatively short-lived relationship that Grande was caught on CCTV licking a doughnut on display in a shop and saying that she “hates America”. By July 2016, the pair had broken things off, despite Grande telling Billboard magazine in May, “I’m a very happy girl.” Mac Miller Grande dated the late rapper Mac Miller, whose real name is Malcolm McCormick, between 2016 to 2018. They broke up in May and Grande took to Instagram to open up about their break-up. Grande wrote: “I respect and adore him endlessly and am grateful to have him in my life in any form, at all times regardless of how our relationship changes or what the universe holds for each of us!” In July 2018, Mac Miller shared his side of things, explaining in an interview: “I was in love with somebody. We were together for two years. We worked through good times, bad times, stress and everything else. And then it came to an end and we both moved on. And it’s that simple.” The rapper died in September 2018 and Grande issued a heartfelt tribute. She wrote: “I adored you from the day I met you when I was nineteen and I always will.” Pete Davidson Comedian Pete Davidson and Grande were first linked in 2018, with Davidson confirming their relationship in May 2018 with an image of them dressed in Harry Potter costumes with the caption: “The chamber of secrets has been opened.” Just one month later, it was revealed that the pair were engaged, with Davidson reportedly popping the question with a $96,000 diamond ring. But, in October 2018, it was reported the couple had split, with a source saying they realised they moved too quickly. Davidson said: “She’s a wonderful, strong person, and I genuinely wish her all the happiness in the world.” Mikey Foster Performer Mikey Foster and Grande first sparked dating rumours in August 2019 with the release of her music video for her song 'Boyfriend' in which they kissed. In 2020, a source confirmed the pair had actually been dating since June 2019 before their relationship fizzled. Dalton Gomez Grande and her future husband, the real estate agent, Dalton Gomez met in 2020 after she hired him to help her find a house to buy prior to the outbreak of Covid 19. The relationship wasn’t publicly confirmed until May 2020 when the pair were pictured slow dancing in the music video for Grande and Justin Bieber’s track, 'Stuck With U'. In December 2020, the pair announced their engagement with Grande posting a picture of the diamond and pearl engagement ring on Instagram with the caption: “Forever n then some.” Grande’s rep told US Weekly that they got married in May 2021, saying: “It was tiny and intimate — less than 20 people. The room was so happy and full of love. The couple and both families couldn't be happier.” But, in July 2023, it was revealed the couple had “separated”, with rumours they had split as early as January 2023. Ethan Slater This month, it was reported by US Weekly that Grande is now dating her Broadway co-star Ethan Slater after the pair grew close during their London run of the musical Wicked. A source said: “Ariana and Ethan have only recently begun seeing each other but they have a lot of fun together and are enjoying each other’s company.” Their relationship has been seen as controversial by some, since Slater and his wife Lilly Jay only celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary in November 2022 and welcomed a baby boy in the same year. According to reports, Slater only filed for divorce from James on 26 July. In an interview published on 27 July, James told Page Six: “[Ariana’s] the story really. Lena The Plug recalls having 'awkward' threesome with 'A-list' rapper
Lena The Plug recalls having 'awkward' threesome with 'A-list' rapper
Lena the Plug has been thrust into the limelight thanks to her notorious “collaboration” with porn star Jason Luv, but not all her sexual encounters have been so well choreographed. The OnlyFans star, who is known for her X-rated podcast ‘Plug Talk’, has revealed that she once had a threesome with an “A-lister” and her best friend, but admitted that she found the whole experience painfully “awkward”. ‘Plug Talk’ follows an unusual format, in that each episode sees Lena (real name Lena Nersesian) and her husband Adam22 interview a female porn actor and then have sex with her at the end. But, three-ways haven’t always come so naturally to the content creator, as she acknowledged in a resurfaced clip. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter In the video, posted to YouTube back in 2017, Lena and her pal Emily laughed about an encounter they’d had, apparently with a bonafide superstar. Introducing the eyebrow-raising anecdote, the adult influencer said: “Basically Emily and I became best friends the moment we locked eyes in March of 2016 and a week later we collabbed (sic) on a penis.” She explained: “This is Los Angeles, a lot of things can happen and Emily somehow was invited to hang out with a very attractive celebrity, A-list rapper.” Lena said that Emily pleaded with her to come along to the celeb’s house because she was too nervous to go alone, but the podcaster warned her: “If we go there together, he’s going to think that we’re both going to f**k him.” Sure enough, after smoking some weed and drinking some “really gross” wine, this is precisely what happened, even though Emily wanted the famous lover all to herself. “This is not only an awkward threesome because you didn't want me to join, but it was just awkward because he's awkward,” Lena recalled. She then recounted how, despite having “kissed a lot of girls” and even having had a girlfriend herself, she found her sexual dalliance with Emily almost unbearably cringe-inducing. “I've kissed my sister, I've kissed my cousins who are girls and none of those kisses felt as awkward as the kisses that Emily and I exchanged,” she said. “Me and her are best friends, but we also have a very mother-daughter/sister relationship.” However, this was not the end of the racy story, but simply the prelude to something even more risqué. Moving on to her budding relationship with Adam22 (real name Adam Grandmaison), Lena told viewers: “I've been seeing Adam for a few months and we are both sexually pretty open to having other girls join.” She then announced that they would be having sex with Emily “in an hour” and then “talk about it after” on the same YouTube video. “It's kind of weird and controversial to have your best friend join, but I trust Emily and this will just kind of be kind of fun,” she added. Eventually, Adam did join and the video cut to the aftermath. Posed that most clichéd of questions: “How was it for you?”, Adam replied: “It was probably one of the greatest experiences of my life.” They rapped up the clip with Lena leaning back on her bed with Adam and saying: “We're going to make a sex tape if you get me to a million subscribers and this man as well.” Suffice it to say, six years on, they each have more than a million subscribers. And, together, they’ve made a hell of a lot more than just one sex tape. Have your say in our news democracy.
